We have taken decisive action on fixed-odds betting terminals to cut the maximum stake to £2. On 5<sup>th</sup> September, the Gambling Commission launched its consultation on proposals to increase player protections online, including stronger age and identity verification. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 22/03/2018 answer text <p>We take problem gambling very seriously and protecting vulnerable people is a key aim for the Government and the Gambling Commission.</p><p> </p><p>The rate of problem gambling among the adult population in Britain has remained relatively stable over many years, and is currently 0.8%.</p><p> </p><p>Our consultation on gaming machines and social responsibility closed in January. It made clear we will cut stakes on fixed-odds betting terminals. We are giving the report’s recommendations full consideration and will respond in due course. Doing so will not require legislation. In addition, the Government is investing up to £40 million (in partnership with the Big Lottery Fund) in the Youth Investment Fund, which is supporting 90 youth organisations around the country to create and expand open access youth projects, and is expected to benefit up to 300,000 young people. The 2016 National Youth Social Action Survey showed that young people who had participated in social action in the past 12 months had stronger personal networks and higher life satisfaction than those who have never done any social action.
