star this property answer text <p>In the House of Lords Business dated 3 June, there were 164 unanswered Questions for Written Answer (QWA) relating to COVID-19. As of 11th June, 72 of these have been answered. The officials and special adviser's working in my office regularly speak with departments to ensure the timely answering of QWAs and have been doing so during the COVID-19 pandemic. I also regularly remind the Government Front Bench of their obligations to the House and the need to ensure all QWAs are answered within the established deadlines.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>As of 30th July, there have been 7,372 QWAs tabled this session in comparison, a total of 6,266 QWAs were tabled in the whole of 2019. All departments have been working extremely hard in difficult and unprecedented circumstances. My office is in regular contact with departments about late responses. Additionally, I remind my ministerial colleagues of the need to provide timely answers to written questions and have received assurances that any backlogs are being worked through.<strong> </strong></p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>Before the move to virtual proceedings one minute speaking time limits were very rare. Before Easter of this year there had not been one since 2016.</p><p><strong> </strong></p><p>An inevitable consequence of lockdown has been that members have had more time to take part in debates. There has not been a corresponding increase in the amount of parliamentary time available. In fact, because of the public health, administrative and broadcasting constraints the House is working under there has been a reduction in the amount of time available.</p><p><strong> </strong></p><p>Members can see how many others are signed up to speak so are able to make an informed decision as to whether they wish to contribute.</p><p> </p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>We have debated 18 Select Committee reports so far this session, including most recently on 24 January. We have seen an increase in the number of committees, with the number of Sessional Committees doubling over the last decade and six new ones set up since 2020.</p><p> </p><p>The Government Whips Office will continue to work closely with the Usual Channels and the Committee Office to schedule time for debate on reports as regularly as possible. This includes an additional Friday sitting on 25 February to debate committee reports.</p> more like this
