star this property answer text <p>A national loneliness measure was announced in October 2018 as part of the loneliness strategy.</p><p> </p><p>The Office for National Statistics (ONS) undertook a programme of scoping work to recommend a way of measuring loneliness which would work for people of different ages and backgrounds, including how different loneliness measures compare for use with diverse ethnic groups, including those with limited English.</p><p> </p><p>ONS’s final recommendation of using both direct and indirect measures of loneliness where possible is an approach currently taken by the English Longitudinal Study of Ageing and the Understanding Society study. The recommended measures are well-tested across different surveys and demographics.</p><p> </p><p>ONS worked with the Loneliness Technical Advisory Group to identify a range of criteria regarding the design, sample and geographical coverage of the surveys in which the measure will be included, to build opportunities to improve understanding of differences between ethnic groups.</p>

star this property answer text <p>Government is addressing the impact of loneliness this winter by providing millions of pounds in funding, inspiring organisations to take action and encouraging people to reach out through our campaign ‘Let’s Talk Loneliness’.</p><p>As part of the £750 million charity funding package announced in the spring, £18 million has been provided to charities at the forefront of tackling loneliness. This funding is directly benefiting people at increased risk of loneliness, including young carers, veterans, new parents, people living with disabilities and many more.</p><p>We have set up a new Tackling Loneliness Network that brings together over 65 private, public and voluntary organisations. These organisations are sharing expertise and developing innovative ways to tackle loneliness.</p><p>The ‘Let’s Talk Loneliness’ campaign continues to share practical tips and signpost support via social media and through our website, so that no one needs to feel lonely this winter.</p><p><strong> </strong></p>

star this property answer text <p>Government’s strategy on tackling loneliness in England includes 60 new policy commitments from across government, with a range of timescales for implementation. Each of the nine departments involved is responsible for the delivery of its own policies, and implementation is overseen by the cross-government ministerial group on loneliness, chaired by the Minister for Sport and Civil Society.</p><p> </p><p>A number of commitments have already been delivered, including the launch of an online social prescribing platform, and the award of grant-funding to 126 organisations through the Building Connections Fund.</p><p> </p><p>Government will include an update on progress in its first annual report on tackling loneliness, which we expect to be published later in 2019.</p><p> </p> more like this

These focussed on ways of measuring the impact of library services on its users including in reducing loneliness. star this property answer text <p>“Barriers to belonging: An exploration of loneliness among people from Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic backgrounds” highlights that many people from BAME backgrounds face multiple challenges to feeling like they belong and accessing support services. These include increased likelihood of discrimination, not feeling welcome and fear of stigma. The report also points to greater barriers to accessing help for loneliness and joining in community activities, including a lack of money, language barriers and not having enough free time.</p><p> </p><p>The cross government tackling loneliness team will consider the research findings and recommendations made to Government, in its work taking forward the loneliness strategy.</p> more like this
