We want to see cross-Channel trade continue to move as freely as possible but it is right that as a responsible government we also work on a range of contingency plans to deal with any disruption.</p><p> </p><p>Department for Transport is working closely with the Border Delivery Group to ensure a joint understanding of the possible impacts on ports and airports throughout the country of the UK’s departure from the EU in a number of scenarios. We have been monitoring the impacts of the coronavirus on supply chains from as many sources as possible, including our ongoing dialogue with business.</p><p> </p><p>Defra and the Food Standards Agency have been developing a range of temporary easements for application in the UK for both intra-EU movements and third country imports to ensure that trade continues to flow during the Covid-19 outbreak. We consider that these temporary measures will not compromise biosecurity and public health. Separately, the European Commission has adopted Implementing Regulation (EU) 2020/466 that provides a number of discretionary, temporary official control easements, some of which overlap with the ones we have been developing. We produce 64% of our entire food supply need, and that increases to 77% for indigenous food that we can grow or rear here in the UK for all or part of the year. These figures have been steady over the past 20 years.</p><p> </p><p>UK consumers have access through international trade to food products that cannot be produced here, or at least not on a year-round basis.
