star this property answer text <p>We will vote against the draft resolution at the UN in December on the holding of a UN high level conference in May 2018 to review progress on nuclear disarmament. We do not believe that a Conference mandated by this resolution will lead to effective progress on nuclear disarmament. It will not address the serious threats to international peace and security posed by nuclear <del class="ministerial">non</del> proliferation nor will it take account of the international security environment. The Tbilisi Declaration was adopted by the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly and not by the Government. If the Conference is held, we will consider our approach closer to the time.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>We are engaging with the Commonwealth Secretariat, other member states and organisations from across the Commonwealth to agree an agenda for next year's Heads of Government meeting. In this respect papers have been circulated on <del class="ministerial">five</del> <ins class="ministerial">four</ins> key pillars on which the agenda may be progressed. These are prosperity (trade), sustainability, security and fairness. The final pillar of fairness<del class="ministerial"> is</del> <ins class="ministerial">(</ins>subject to agreement with member states and the secretariat<ins class="ministerial">)</ins> provides substan​tial scope for the important issue of human rights to be raised.</p><p>The Government believes that the Commonwealth is a force for good around the world, through its promotion of freedom, democracy, and human rights as enshrined in the Commonwealth Charter. The UK-hosted 2018 Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting will encourage all Commonwealth members to uphold these values.</p>

star this property answer text <p>The Government is committed to ensuring there is no impunity for these heinous crimes committed by Daesh, as shown by the Foreign Secretary, my Rt Hon. Friend the Member for Uxbridge and South Ruislip (Boris Johnson)'s launching of the global campaign Bringing Daesh to Justice. As a first step in this campaign, we are working with the government of Iraq to bring a proposal before the UN on evidence gathering and preservation in Iraq. It is vital that this is done now, before evidence is lost or destroyed. This campaign is about justice for all Daesh victims and we expect it to cover all violations of international humanitarian law and violations and abuses of international human rights law by Daesh including war crimes, crimes against humanity and genocide.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>​As my noble friend, the Rt Hon Baroness Anelay of St Johns, confirmed in her reply to written question HL5120, the British Government is deeply concerned by reports of forced child labour at the Masikryong ski resort. The UK has been clear that forced labour is a form of modern day slavery and must be brought to an end. Any decision on offering to co-host events at the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics would be a matter for the government of the Republic of Korea to consider. However, an application to co-host Olympic events with another state would require the approval of the International Olympic Committee.</p> more like this

As part of the Government's support for UN reform, we want to ensure that there are robust systems in place to deal with such complaints. The UK hosted the UN Peacekeeping Defence Ministerial in London in September 2016, which called for improvements in the '3Ps' of peacekeeping; better planning, pledges and performance, and specifically that all UN personnel deployed in UN peacekeeping operations be committed to the highest standards of conduct.</p> more like this
