We are calling on all parties to adhere to previously agreed ceasefires and abide by their obligations under International Humanitarian Law and relevant UN Security Council resolutions, particularly UNSCR 2254, which calls for a nationwide ceasefire as part of a political process to end the conflict.</p><p>We have repeatedly raised the issue at the UN Security Council and called an emergency session on Idlib on 6 February. The Prime Minister discussed the situation in Idlib with President Erdogan, President Macron and Chancellor Merkel at their meeting on 3 December 2019. I discussed Idlib with Turkish counterparts during a visit to Turkey on 5-6 February and with Special Envoys of the Small Group on Syria (comprising Egypt, France, Germany, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, the United Kingdom and the United States) on 28 January. Officials have also raised our concerns with Russian counterparts. We have repeatedly condemned attacks on civilian infrastructure, including schools and medical facilities. The support we provide to these bodies contributes to the development of both their capacity and capabilities. We have provided assistance in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme contributing to their work to achieve Sustainable Development Goal 16 (strengthening institutions and increasing access to justice).</p><p>The capability of these bodies to hold government departments to account has been demonstrated through the prosecution of at least 97 police officers, accused of human rights violations. It was as a result of an investigation by the oversight bodies, that the cases of Mohammed Ramadhan and Hussain Moosa were referred back to the Court of Cassation, leading to a re-trial in the Court of Appeal.</p><p>I have publicly reiterated my concern about the death sentences handed down to Husain Moosa and Mohammed Ramadhan. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 11/02/2020 answer text <p>We are active diplomatically to call on all parties to the conflict in Idlib to adhere to agreed ceasefires and abide by their obligations under International Humanitarian Law. We have repeatedly raised the issue at the UN Security Council. The Prime Minister discussed the situation in Idlib with President Erdogan, President Macron and Chancellor Merkel at their meeting on 3 December 2019. Senior officials have since discussed the situation there with their counterparts in Turkey and the UN Special Envoy, as well as raising serious concerns about the Idlib offensive with Russian counterparts. On 28 January, the UK hosted a meeting of Special Envoys of the Small Group on Syria (Egypt, France, Germany, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, the United Kingdom and the United States) to discuss the situation in Syria, including the need for de-escalation in Idlib. We work closely with the Egyptian authorities to counter shared threats from terrorism, to promote the safety and security of around 500,000 British citizens who visit Egypt each year, and to support longer-term reform.</p><p>Earlier this month, the Prime Minister welcomed President Sisi and seven of his Cabinet Ministers to London for the UK-Africa Investment Summit. We have made clear our long-standing concerns over Iran's nuclear programme, its missile proliferation activity and its support for proxy groups and militias across the region. Such support is in contravention of UN Security Council resolutions and in many cases against the wishes of the people and the governments of the states in which the proxies operate. We will continue to hold Iran to account for its actions, including by working with European partners to sanction Iranian entities that contravene international rules and norms; there are over 200 EU sanctions listings in place against Iran. The Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action is an important pillar of the wider global non-proliferation architecture and in all our security interests. The UK has consistently called on Iran to return immediately to compliance with its commitments and to now engage in good faith with the dispute resolution mechanism under the deal. We have also taken action at the UN, bilaterally and alongside our European partners to press Iran to fully uphold its obligations under international human rights law, in particular the International Convention on Civil and Political Rights. We welcome President Sisi's consistent calls for peaceful coexistence and the Government of Egypt's expression of support for the rights of all minorities and for religious tolerance. The UK has always been clear that the rights of minorities, wherever they exist, should be protected in line with international standards. During my visit to Cairo last September, I met Pope Tawadros II, whose Coptic Orthodox Church plays such an important part in Egyptian society.</p><p>As part of our UK-funded projects and programmes in Egypt we are providing counter-terrorism assistance to the Egyptian authorities and counter-IED training for the Egyptian security forces.
