star this property answer text <p>An ageing society means that we need to reach a longer-term sustainable settlement for social care. This is why the Government is committing to publishing a Green Paper by summer 2018 setting out its proposals for reform.</p><p> </p><p>In developing the Green Paper, it is right that we take the time needed to debate the many complex issues and listen to the perspectives of experts and care users, building consensus around reforms which can succeed. This is why we are starting a process of initial engagement over the coming months through which the Government will work with experts, stakeholders and users to shape the long-term reforms that will be proposed in the Green Paper.</p> more like this

This is why, against the context of tough public sector finances, we have taken steps to protect social care services.</p><p> </p><p>The Government has already invested an additional £2 billion to put social care on a more stable footing and alleviate short-term pressures across the health and care system. Friend the First Secretary of State and Minister for the Cabinet Office, Damian Green, has announced this month that the Government will publish a Green Paper on care and support for older people by summer 2018. The Green Paper will set out proposals to reform care and support for older people.</p><p> </p><p>With the shifts we are seeing in society, including our ageing population, caring will increasingly become a core part of family life for all of us. That is why the Green Paper will include a focus on unpaid care and how our society supports carers as a vital part of a sustainable health and social care system.</p><p> </p><p>Ahead of the Green Paper’s publication, the Department will continue to lead a cross-Government programme of targeted work to support carers.</p><p> </p><p>Once the Green Paper is published by summer 2018, it will be subject to a full public consultation.</p> more like this
