Government officials have participated in expert group discussions on the so called delegated acts which will lay down the detailed rules. The UK devolved administrations have been fully involved in briefing for those meetings, including on the provisions for movement testing. Written representations have also been submitted to the European Commission. We defend the coast where it is sustainable and affordable to do so, and let it function naturally in areas where it is not.</p><p> </p><p>UK Climate Predictions 2018 (UKCP18) published in November show that sea levels around the UK will continue to rise to the year 2100 under all emission pathways, with increases generally greater in the south than in the north. We can continue to expect increases in extreme coastal water levels driven mainly by increases in mean sea level rise. Over the next six months, the Environment Agency (EA) will be undertaking work to better understand the implications of UKCP18 for flood and coastal erosion activities.</p><p> </p><p>In England, coastal authorities have developed a network of Shoreline Management Plans covering the entire coast of England. These plans provide a high level, long term policy framework to manage coastal change over three time horizons: 20, 50 and 100 years. Productivity is the key driver of long-term economic growth and prosperity. Our future agriculture policy will allow farmers to provide a supply of healthy, home-grown produce made to high environmental and animal welfare standards. The future policy will be underpinned by measures to increase productivity and invest in new technology. This will help farmers become more profitable and reduce their environmental footprint. Leaving the EU is an opportunity to boost domestic productivity through research, adoption of best practice, investment in new tools and technologies and adoption of new business models.</p><p>Further preparation for our withdrawal is continuing to be undertaken across the whole of government to consider how we best manage checks and controls in a range of scenarios. We have been very clear that when we leave the EU, we will categorically not dilute our world-leading set of standards on food safety and quality. We are committed to upholding these with robust and independent scientific and technical advice. Any products entering the UK market must meet our high standards of quality and safety.</p><p>The UK has a high degree of food security, built on access to a range of sources including strong domestic production and imports from third countries. This is a devolved matter. In England, the Forestry Commission works with Natural England and other conservation organisations and projects to help protect red squirrel enclaves and to allow the populations to expand.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>The Forestry Commission also undertakes a number of actions to protect red squirrels from the impact of grey squirrels as outlined in the grey squirrel action plan for England. These actions include Countryside Stewardship funding for landowners who choose to help protect red squirrels within designated reserves.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>Defra, in partnership with the United Kingdom Squirrel Alliance (UKSA), also provided funding for work by the Animal and Plant Health Agency for the development of a fertility control method for grey squirrels. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 06/11/2018 answer text <p>The Fisheries White Paper, ‘Sustainable Fisheries for Future Generations’, charts the course for a sustainable and profitable fishing industry.</p><p> </p><p>The introduction of the Fisheries Bill is an important step in regaining full control of our waters, setting fishing opportunities and managing fisheries sustainably.</p><p> </p><p>Negotiations with the EU have confirmed the intention that the UK will continue to participate in all EU programmes financed by the Multiannual Financial Framework (2014-2020) until their closure.</p><p> </p><p>In the event of no deal being reached, the Chancellor announced on 24 July 2018 that all EMFF projects approved before the closure date of the current programme (December 2020) will be fully funded under a Treasury guarantee. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 06/11/2018 answer text <p>All the evidence so far suggests this is an isolated case of classical Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy (BSE). As this incident occurred in Aberdeenshire, the Scottish Government have led the response, with support from the Animal and Plant Health Agency. We have made clear Defra is ready to provide assistance as required.</p><p>The Scottish Government have commissioned an epidemiological investigation to determine how the animal became infected. Whilst the disease is not directly transmitted from animal to animal, the affected animal’s three feed cohorts and one offspring have been traced and isolated, and have been humanely culled and tested for BSE as a precaution in line with UK and EU requirements. All test results are negative.</p><p>Studies have concluded that the BSE epidemic is in its final stage but that occasional cases should be expected in the ‘tail end’. The last case in the UK before this one occurred in 2015.</p><p>Strict protection measures remain in place which have been effective in reducing cases to these very low levels. The measures include the ban on feeding animal protein to farmed animals, which prevents the spread of BSE to animals through feed; removing specified risk material (SRM) – the most risky parts of animals – at slaughter to protects consumers from risk from food; and surveillance to monitor the level of BSE over time and thereby check on the continued effectiveness of BSE controls.</p><p> </p> answering member constituency Camborne and Redruth answering member printed George Eustice question first answered 06/11/2018 11:48:56 answering member 3934 label Biography information for George Eustice
