star this property answer text <p>The Universities Superannuation Scheme (USS) is a private pension scheme, and government has no role in relation to the USS beyond regulation as applied to all work-based pension schemes by The Pensions Regulator. The government remains deeply concerned about the impact of industrial action called in response to proposed reforms to the USS. I have called on all parties to redouble their efforts to reach a constructive agreement, as this is the most appropriate route towards resolving the dispute.</p><p> </p><p>Our new regulator, the Office for Students, will have wide-ranging powers to ensure students’ interests are protected, and will be working closely with universities to avoid or minimise disruption to students caused by strike action. In the event that a student’s experience has been seriously affected, I expect universities to offer compensation.</p> more like this
