star this property answer text
We do not hold centrally an annual breakdown of spending for victims of domestic violence in the West Midlands since 2010, however, the Government is providing financial support to specialist services for BAME women who are victims of domestic violence in a number of ways through our Violence against Women and Girls (VAWG) Strategy. This includes Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG) funding to local authorities for domestic abuse services and the VAWG Service Transformation Fund

Since 2014 MHCLG have invested over £33 million in services to support victims of domestic abuse, including support for BAME victims. The MHCLG Priorities for Domestic Abuse Services, which set out what steps local areas should take in their response to domestic abuse, includes the need to consider provision for BAME victims. These priorities encourage the securing of specialist services and using their expertise and knowledge to identify and deal with barriers to service access and deliver the support that BAME victims need when they need it.

In addition, the VAWG Service Transformation Fund launched in 2017 has provided £17 million to 41 projects and meets the needs of those women and girls experiencing multiple disadvantage (BAME, LGB&T women and girls and disabled and older women). In the West Midlands, we provided £250,000 to Staffordshire PCC for a FGM project to ensure victims and potential victims have timely access to counselling and therapeutic support.

In 2017, the Government funded the charity Imkaan to build capacity in the BME women’s sector.

Significant further funding for domestic abuse services, including refuges will be available as early as possible in this financial year. This new fund will be open to all local areas across England to bid for a share.

On 6 September we announced the 100 places we have invited to develop proposals for Town Deals as part of the £3.6 billion Towns Fund announced on 27 July. 45 of these places are in the Northern Powerhouse, 18 of which are in the North East. Newcastle, North Tyneside and Northumberland will also benefit from £600 million of investment in jobs and infrastructure under the North of Tyne Devolution Deal, whilst the Tees Valley Devolution Deal is worth £450 million. Additionally, of the £3.4 billion of Local Growth Funding that has gone to the Northern Powerhouse, £505.6 million has been allocated to the North East and Tees Valley Local Enterprise Partnerships.

b) The position of Minister for the Northern Powerhouse was first created in 2015 to drive economic growth in the North and ensure the needs of the North of England are represented in government. I was appointed Minister for the Northern Powerhouse and Local Growth in June 2017 and I was re-appointed on 25 July 2019 as Minister of State attending Cabinet, showing that the Northern Powerhouse remains at the heart of this government’s agenda.

star this property answer text
Leaving the EU, with or without a deal, will not affect our commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals. The UK’s first Voluntary National Review (VNR) will be published shortly. The VNR will review UK action both domestically and internationally in support of Goal 11. It will also outline key challenges and next steps, recognising that while progress is being made, there is more work to do.

The UK and the EU have agreed the terms of the UK’s smooth and orderly exit from the EU in the form of the Withdrawal Agreement, and a detailed political declaration on the terms of our future relationship which will support the Government's commitment to meeting the full range of Sustainable Development Goals. However, the Government will continue to do the responsible thing and prepare for all eventualities. This includes the potential impact of a no deal scenario on the full range of government priorities. This Government has been clear that we do not want or expect a ‘no deal’ scenario, but whatever the outcome of our future relationship we remain committed to supporting the delivery of the Sustainable Development Goals both domestically and internationally.

Wider engagement with external stakeholders across the UK is ongoing.

We intend to consult on the design of the United Kingdom Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF) later this year and encourage all interested parties to contribute their views. We are confident that a negotiated agreement will be reached and that we will continue to take part in the 2014-2020 EU programmes until they end.
