star this property answer text <p>Discussions on the future arrangements for Ministry of Defence Police and Defence Fire and Rescue Service personnel pensions are still ongoing.</p><p> </p><p>I recognise that this is an important issue for both communities and I am therefore seeking to resolve it as soon as possible. This is however a complex matter which raises a number of cross-Departmental issues.</p><p>Although no final decision has yet been taken, I hope to conclude this issue in the near future.</p><p> </p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>In addition to what the Government has done, for example on making life long widows’ pensions, now we need to make sure there is delivery locally, which is why by this evening I will have written to all Local Authority Chief Executives and Leaders in Great Britain. Then I will write to every Clinical Commissioning Group and Hospital Trust to make sure the National Health Service delivers on the Covenant, no disadvantage and in certain circumstances priority treatment.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>The outgoing Commissioner, Dr Susan Atkins, and I are confident that an effective and fair complaints system has been agreed and is contained in the Bill now going through Parliament. It is one that will give Service Personnel access to a redress system they deserve.</p><p> </p><p>Last Tuesday, I was delighted to announce that Nicola Williams is the Government’s preferred candidate for the post of Service Complaints Commissioner, and she will now go forward to a House of Commons Defence Committee pre-appointment hearing on Wednesday 26 November. She is an outstanding candidate and I am sure she will undertake the role with great vigour and insight.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>We continue to listen to the accommodation needs and concerns of our Service personnel and their families, and recognise their need for increased personal choice and stability and the opportunity for home ownership.</p><p> </p><p>In April 2014, we launched the £200 million Forces Help to Buy Scheme to encourage and support those Service families that aspire to home ownership. Forces Help to Buy is available nationwide, and has already helped almost 1,500 Service personnel get on, or stay on, the property ladder. <br></p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>The Ministry of Defence follows the advice of Public Health England's Advisory Committee for Malaria Prevention in providing appropriately tested and effective methods of chemo-prophylaxis to Service personnel who are deploying to areas of the world where there is a risk of contracting malaria. The exact choice of drug depends on a number of factors, including the region the individual is deploying to, the health of the individual and any past history of side effects.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>Service personnel deserve to have a fair and effective complaints system. I announced in March that we had been working for some time with Dr Atkins, the Service Complaints Commissioner, on proposals for a more efficient system.</p><p> </p><p>In her most recent report, Dr Atkins concluded that she was optimistic that a fairer, more effective system has been agreed, and that, once implemented, Service personnel will have access to a redress system that they deserve. The bill introduced in the House of Lords on 5<sup>th</sup> June 2014 will improve the system to make sure that is what they will get.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>We thank the French Government for making the offer to award the Legion d'Honneur to all those UK Servicemen who were involved in the liberation of France in 1944. So far the Ministry of Defence has passed in excess of 2,500 applications to the French Authorities.</p><p>We continue to receive and process applications on a daily basis and this week we anticipate a further 200 applications will be passed across to the French Authorities.</p> more like this
