	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 06/12/2018 answer text <p>The UK has been at the forefront of the humanitarian response in Yemen and focusses on addressing the critical needs of people inside the country, including those who have been internally displaced by the conflict. In April this year, the UK announced £170 million in response to the humanitarian crisis in Yemen for this Financial Year.</p><p> </p><p>There are far fewer Yemenis displaced across borders than other situations in the world due to geography and poverty. There is for example a refugee settlement in Djibouti of around 2,000 people - a number which has remained stable in recent years.</p><p> </p><p>The International Organisation for Migration (IOM) estimate that up to three million people have been internally displaced since the conflict began in Yemen in 2015, with over 450,000 displaced from and within Hodeidah governorate between 1 June and 23 October 2018.</p><p> </p><p>The UK is providing £36m to IOM and UNHCR to help over 21,000 displaced people buy vital food through cash transfers, and enabling access to clean water, primary health care and support in response to sexual violence. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 14/12/2018 answer text <p>Yemen’s recent economic crisis is one of the biggest risks threatening to tip Yemen into famine, with the Yemeni Riyal losing over 40% of its value between June and October.</p><p>The UK’s immediate leadership at the height of the economic crisis in October prevented a worsening of the situation. We worked with the Central Bank of Yemen in releasing $270 million of hard currency, provided by Saudi Arabia, to support importers bringing food staples into the country.</p><p>We also successfully pressed for the suspension of unnecessary processes introduced by the Government of Yemen in bringing these goods into the country. This has eased the pressure of price increases and temporarily stabilised the currency - the value of the Riyal has since appreciated, rising from 755 YER per USD to 500 YER per USD.</p><p>However, much more remains to be done. This includes the Yemeni Social Fund for Development, a national development institution established in 1997 to improve basic services, enhance economic opportunities, and reduce the vulnerability of the poor.</p><p> </p><p>Between 2010 and 2018, DFID contributed £108 million to the Yemen Social Fund for Development to provide hundreds of thousands of Yemenis with work opportunities restoring roads, health clinics, and agricultural land, as well as providing training, infrastructure improvements, and clean water to thousands more.
