answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 16/05/2022 answer text <p>Departmental officials and I meet regularly with the Office for Students to discuss a wide range of issues.</p><p>The government recognises how important international students, including those from the EU are, both culturally and economically. We are proud that for the 2020/21 academic year, we saw positive increases in the number of EU domiciled entrants by 4% compared to 2019/20.</p><p>We have demonstrated our commitment to international students through our International Education Strategy which was updated in February 2021 and can be found here: <a href="https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/international-education-strategy-2021-update/international-education-strategy-2021-update-supporting-recovery-driving-growth" target="_blank">https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/international-education-strategy-2021-update/international-education-strategy-2021-update-supporting-recovery-driving-growth</a>. Through this strategy, we committed to hosting at least 600,000 international higher education students studying in the UK per year. The latest data shows international enrolments increased by 9% in the 2020/21 academic year with a total of 605,130 compared with 556,625 for the previous academic year. This means we have met our international student’s ambition for the first time, around 10 years early.</p><p>In addition, the Student Route coupled with the Graduate Route means we now have a world-class student visa offer befitting our world-class higher education sector. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 17/12/2018 answer text <p>​It is essential that the further education (FE) sector is able to recruit and retain excellent teachers if we are to achieve a world-class technical education system in England. Due to the independent nature of the FE sector, and government’s historical relationship with it, we do not have detailed data on FE teacher pay, or on the wider FE workforce.</p><p>We are undertaking work to understand the situation better, including the specific challenges and opportunities in relation to teacher recruitment and retention in the sector. This includes our recent College Staff Survey, which is helping us develop a better insight into the state of the teaching profession in FE and shows that more than half of all teachers have worked in the sector for ten years or more.</p><p>We want to support the recruitment and development of FE teachers. This year we have launched our £5 million Taking Teaching Further programme to help attract talented and inspiring people with industry expertise to teach in FE. We have also announced our £8 million new bespoke professional development offer, T level Professional Development, to help existing teachers and leaders successfully deliver T levels.</p><p>​Further, we have recently commissioned research on identifying FE teacher comparators, and on incentive programmes for the recruitment and retention on FE teachers, to better inform our thinking. Individual secondments and loans are agreed by line managers and based on business need. Managers stay in contact with staff throughout their time away and manage their return to the department. The department does not hold a central record detailing individual loans and secondments.</p><p>It is the top priority of the government to leave the EU with a deal, but it is also the responsibility of the government to prepare for all scenarios, including for the prospect of a no deal. The Civil Service is focused on delivering the government’s most pressing priorities, so it is only sensible that we make use of the resources and expertise we have available to make sure the UK is prepared for all Brexit scenarios on exit day. This includes departments sharing staff and working together on joint projects. In particular, it shows that the UK is a top destination for international students, with almost 1 in 5 students studying at UK universities coming from abroad.</p><p>Standards are rising in our schools, with 84% of pupils now attending good or outstanding schools, compared to 66% in 2010. The Company has set up an Enterprise Adviser Network of senior volunteers from business to work with schools and colleges to increase opportunities for young people to learn more about the world of work. This provision prioritises individuals seeking employment. It also encourages collaboration between local businesses and Jobcentre Plus by offering providers the freedom to respond to the needs in their area.</p><p>Additionally, Local Enterprise Partnerships (LEPs) play a key role in identifying skills gaps that includes ESOL.
