star this property answer text
The Community Housing Fund is currently scheduled to close in March 2020. Ministers are considering all budgets in the round and allocations will be announced following a business planning exercise later in the year

The government recognises that the community-led housing sector offers significant potential for helping to meet housing need across England. In addition to helping increase the rate of delivery of new housing, it will help deliver a range of benefits including: diversifying the house building sector, improving design and construction quality, developing modern methods of construction, and sustaining local communities and local economies. The support and close involvement of the local community enables the community-led approach to secure planning permission and deliver housing that could not be brought forward through speculative development.
more like this

Within that, section a) provides a definition of affordable housing for rent. This includes a provision that homes remain at an affordable price for future eligible households, or for the subsidy to be recycled for alternative affordable housing provision.

The reference to subsidy within this section usually relates to where government has provided capital grant, in particular grant funding provided through the Affordable Homes Programme.
more like this

The Department has also supported the work of the online platform “Keep It In The Community” to ensure that more community groups are able to identify local assets of community value.

In addition, organisations such as Sport England, The National Lottery Heritage Fund and Power to Change provide comprehensive and specialist bespoke advice, ensuring community groups have access to the knowledge and networks which encourage the community ownership of assets.
more like this

star this property answer text
The Department is committed to increasing the sustainability of new homes.

On 1 October the government launched a consultation on stronger building regulations that will pave the way for the Future Homes Standard. These 2020 changes aim to cut carbon emissions in new homes by almost a third, while keeping household bills low.

We propose that new homes built to the Future Homes Standard from 2025 should have 75-80 per cent fewer carbon dioxide emissions than ones built to current building regulations standards. Developers will be expected to use new technologies such as air source heat pumps and the latest generation of solar panels.

A further consultation will follow, in the coming months, proposing changes to the energy efficiency standards for non-domestic buildings and existing homes; and on preventing overheating in new buildings.

The revised National Planning Policy Framework, re-issued February 2019, expects local planning authorities to plan for climate change. Local authorities should take account of how new developments will help to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, such as through its location, orientation and design. Local authorities should also adopt proactive strategies to adapt to climate change. Planning practice guidance provides advice for local authorities and applicants on implementing these policies.

The National Planning Policy Framework also supports sustainability more broadly and will help deliver the 25 Year Environment Plan, and the Clean Air Strategy. For example, the Framework retains strong and appropriate protections for the natural environment and expects local authorities to require developers to include green infrastructure in housing and commercial developments. The 25 Year Environment Plan commands strong public support and helps ensure new housing is built sustainably.
