unstar this property answer text <p>The Building Better, Building Beautiful Commission is an independent body that will advise Government on how to promote and increase the use of high-quality design for new-build homes and neighbourhoods. In the light of the recent decision to discontinue the role of Sir Roger Scruton as Chair of the Commission, the Secretary of State will be selecting and announcing a new Chair in due course. In the meantime, the work of the Commission will continue with Nicholas Boys Smith as interim Chair, with the aim of producing an interim report to the Secretary of State in July and final report in December.</p> more like this

The Public Land for Housing programme (2015-20) Programme Handbook for Departments and Arm’s Length Bodies August 2018 sets out how risk ratings are defined, and provides guidance on monitoring, reporting and evidence keeping for the programme. All departments actively manage their pipeline of sites for disposal and apply appropriate risk ratings and mitigation strategies. unstar this property answer text <p>We are working to bring into force regulations on mandatory electrical safety checks in the private rented sector as soon as possible, subject to parliamentary approval and timetable. As outlined in the Government response to the consultation on Electrical Safety in the Private Rented Sector, published on 29 January 2019, we are working with industry to produce guidance for landlords setting out the skills and qualifications relevant to determining competence of those carrying out electrical inspections. We have also been working with local authorities in England to develop the range of sanctions for non-compliance with the upcoming regulations.</p> more like this

unstar this property answer text <p>We have taken steps to address design quality through the revised National Planning Policy Framework and are in the process of reviewing associated guidance. We have also hosted two National Design Conferences, each attended by around 400 representatives of the sector, and we have launched the Building Better, Building Beautiful Commission; to advise the Government on how to promote and increase the use of high-quality design for new build homes and neighbourhoods. The Commission will report back in December 2019.</p><p>In relation to build quality, we have announced our intention for a New Homes Ombudsman to be established and are considering options for a shadow ombudsman. Furthermore, our building regulations set requirements on a range of issues including health and safety, sustainability and access. The regulations are supported by statutory guidance in Approved Documents. As part of its response to Dame Judith Hackitt’s independent review of Building Regulations and fire safety, the Government is developing a programme of reviews of the Approved Documents.</p>

unstar this property answer text <p>1) All eight mayoral combined authorities (MCAs) in England - Cambridgeshire &amp; Peterborough, Greater Manchester, Liverpool City Region, North of Tyne, Sheffield City Region, Tees Valley, West of England and West Midlands- have the following functions in common:</p><p> </p><ul><li><strong> <em>Integrated transport functions</em></strong></li><li><strong> <em>Bus improvement powers including bus franchising</em></strong></li><li><strong> <em>Economic development and regeneration powers</em></strong></li><li><strong> <em>Power to borrow for transport functions</em></strong></li></ul><p> </p><p>They also all have a power of competence over areas where they have had functions conferred. We will use the consultation to test whether specific provisions for different types of housing, such as student accommodation are wanted or needed.</p><p>Landlords will still be able seek possession using existing grounds under section 8 of the Housing Act 1988, including the ground relating to accommodation tied to employment. These reforms will allow the flexibility for renters to move, including for work, if they wish. Tenants will still be able to choose to end the tenancy, as long as they provide requisite notice to the landlord, retaining the flexibility we know is important to some renters.</p> more like this

unstar this property answer text <p>The Government expects certificates of compliance to be issued within a reasonable period of time. Legislation is already in place specifying the governance of ownership certificates and their use in support of planning applications. Applicants are legally required to notify the owners of a site when they submit their planning application, so that they have the opportunity to comment. An ownership certificate confirming that other owners have been appropriately notified must be signed when submitting a planning application. It is an offence to issue a false ownership certificate knowingly or recklessly under section 65(6) of the Town and Country Planning Act 1990.</p> more like this
