answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 26/10/2018 answer text <p>We take seriously the findings of the HM Inspectorate of Probation report on the work undertaken by Community Rehabilitation Companies (CRCs) in relation to domestic abuse. We will publish a detailed action plan in November to address the recommendations made by the Inspectorate, and we require CRCs to develop their own robust action plans in response to specific recommendations. These plans will be closely monitored by the department’s contract management assurance and governance process.</p><p> </p><p>Our reforms to probation mean we are now monitoring around 40,000 offenders who would previously have been released with no supervision at all. However, we have been clear that CRCs need to improve across a range of areas. In September we concluded a public consultation on proposals to end current CRC contracts early and introduce new arrangements for delivering probation services. For instance, the Assessment, Care in Custody and Teamwork (ACCT) case management process for prisoners at risk of self-harm or suicide already includes an enhanced case management process for use where prisoners pose a risk of harm to others, as well as to themselves.</p><p> </p><p>We continue to develop our work with this link in mind. The Prison Safety Programme includes a range of measures designed to address both violence and suicide and self-harm in our prisons. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 20/11/2018 answer text <p>All pregnant women in custody have an individual care and management plan that is communicated to all staff and all pregnant women are seen by a mid-wife at least fortnightly or as required. Healthcare in prisons is provided by trained medics and nurses, but we have also made training on dealing with pregnant women available to all prison officers and new guidance will make clear that pregnant women should have access to 24-hour midwifery advice.</p><p> </p><p>We know it is extremely rare for a woman to give birth in prison - because every step is taken to get them to hospital - but those unique cases are invariably down to the unpredictability of labour.</p><p> </p><p>Our new Female Offenders Strategy made clear that we want fewer women serving short sentences in custody and more remaining in the community, making use of women’s centres to address needs such as substance misuse and mental health problems.</p> answering member constituency Charnwood answering member printed Edward Argar question first answered 20/11/2018 13:05:42 answering member 4362 label Biography information for Edward Argar

We are seeking to ensure that practitioners who work with children and young people in settings with a known high prevalence of speech, language and communication needs are trained in recognising and responding appropriately to communication needs, and ensuring access to speech and language therapy as required.</p><p>Over the past three years MoJ and the YJB have supported a national project, led by the Department for Education, to deliver special educational needs and disability (SEND) awareness training to the youth justice workforce. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 29/08/2018 answer text <p>Our vision for the ‘residential women’s centres’ pilot is the provision of an intensive residential support package in the community for women at risk of, or having served, short custodial sentences. The intention is to divert them from custody where appropriate and support them to address the underlying causes of their offending behaviour.</p><p> </p><p>We are not aware of any past or existing provision that fully accords with this, but there are several similar small-scale models such as Willowdene Farm, Anawim and Threshold Housing First. Therefore, we are unable to provide any information about how many women’s residential centres were in operation in each year since 2007.</p><p> </p><p>We want to ensure that any model taken forward as part of the pilot is sustainable, credible and appropriate for the local context of each site.
