star this property answer text We are investing £1.3bn to reform and modernise the prison estate to make it more efficient, safer and focused on supporting prisoner rehabilitation. We will build new prisons and close prisons that are in poor condition and those which do not have a long-term future in the estate. We will apply for planning permission to redevelop the site of HMP & YOI Glen Parva. If we successfully achieve planning permission at the site, HMP & YOI Glen Parva would close and be replaced by a new, fit for purpose, facility. more like this

Flat projections were made for each contract package area and made available to bidders for the purposes of bid evaluation. The contracts held with Community Rehabilitation Companies (CRCs) include a payment mechanism which accounts for changes in volumes (paying providers more if volumes increase, and less if volumes decrease). This was communicated to providers throughout the bidding and competition process. more like this

star this property answer text Prison numbers can fluctuate, which is why we have a robust set of plans in place to ensure we will always have enough places for offenders committed to custody by the courts. This includes modernising the estate and building new accommodation. We want to see the number of people imprisoned fall, but not by setting an arbitrary figure for reduction. To address the level of re-offending, which remains unacceptably high, we are committed to transforming all prisons into places of safety and reform and to ensuring that community penalties are tough, effective and command the confidence of sentencers. There are significant differences in the adult and youth justice systems. We will continue to assess, however, whether approaches adopted for youths have a broader application. more like this
