answer text <p>Departmental officials have regular dialogue with National Highways about maintenance on the Strategic Road Network. In the last 3 months, National Highways (NH) has carried out repairs and addressed defects on the A1(M) southbound approach to junction 7.</p><p> </p><p>National Highways has a comprehensive road inspection and maintenance programme to maintain safe roads and to reduce the potential for potholes and other surface defects.</p><p> </p><p>Further work will be done between 12 and 16 February. Subsequently, NH has plans to carry out further permanent road surface patch repairs within a 2km stretch of the A1(M) southbound approach to junction 7.</p><p> </p> more like this

answer text <p>The A10 Ely to Cambridge improvement scheme is being promoted by Cambridgeshire County Council and Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Combined Authority for consideration for potential funding as part of the Department’s Major Road Network / Large Local Majors (MRN / LLM) programme. It would not form part of the Government's Road Investment Strategy.</p><p> </p><p>The promoters are currently developing an Outline Business Case (OBC) for the scheme which they expect to submit to the Department in August for a decision on whether to approve it and provide conditional support for the scheme as part of the MRN/ LLM programme.</p><p> </p><p>The latest scheme cost estimate and completion date provided to the Department are £234 million and September 2030 respectively. Naturally, this cost estimate and completion date may be subject to change.</p> more like this

answer text <p><strong> </strong>National Highways set out its expected delivery schedule on the A12 Chelmsford to A120 widening scheme (junctions 19 to 25) in its Delivery Plan Update, with start of works expected in 2023/24 and open for traffic in Road Period 3 (2025-2030).</p><p> </p><p>National Highways reports on delivery, regularly updating progress on its website and will provide more details in due course.</p><p> </p><p>The Secretary of State granted development consent for the A12 to A120 Widening Scheme on the 12 January 2024. The Department is unable to comment on the details of the decision during the 6-week High Court challenge period, which began the day after the consent was published.</p> more like this

answer text <p>Proposals to improve the A120 between Braintree and Marks Tey, where it meets the A12, have been developed alongside other potential enhancements to the strategic road network as part of the RIS3 Pipeline, for possible delivery in a future road period. Following a statement to Parliament in March 2023 from the Secretary of State for Transport identifying a range of funding headwinds and pressures facing transport infrastructure delivery, schemes within the pipeline have been deferred for consideration as part of RIS4 (beyond 2030) at the earliest. The RIS remains the primary funding source for development and delivery of enhancements to the strategic road network in England.</p><p> </p> more like this

answer text <p>The A16 and A17 are the responsibility of local highway authorities – Lincolnshire County Council through South Holland and the Deepings, and neighbouring authorities where they run beyond the county council’s boundary.
