star this property answer text <p>(1) HS2 Ltd does not specifically record or count individual trees removed or required for clearance, as recording is undertaken on an area basis (measured by hectare).</p><p>(2) As part of Phase One alone, HS2 Ltd will plant up to seven million trees and shrubs. Over 700,000 of those trees have already been planted. The area of new woodland will be well in excess of that which is lost. HS2 is creating more than 3300 hectares (33 square kilometres) of new woodland, wildlife and river habitats alongside the line from the West Midlands to London.</p><p>(3) Woodland areas to be lost as a result of HS2’s construction, and also those sites to be used for woodland creation, are described in the relevant Environmental Statement, published alongside the relevant legislation for each phase of the project.</p><p>Further updates on HS2 Ltd’s environmental performance, including with respect to the loss of ancient woodland and associated compensation response, will be published in the autumn.</p><p> </p>

This was a £5.6bn public private partnership that was signed between the Department and Agility/Hitachi.</p><p> </p><p>Disruption has been most significant on the Great Western Railway (GWR) network on intercity services, as well as some London North Eastern Railway (LNER) and a small number of TransPennine Express services.</p><p> </p><p>The agreements in place contain provisions that protect the taxpayer. We have been clear with the industry that we expect those who have the contractual performance and train availability obligations, including Agility Trains, to fully compensate the taxpayer in this matter.</p><p> </p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>Disruption has been most significant on the Great Western Railway (GWR) network on Intercity services, as well as some London North Eastern Railway (LNER) and a small number of TransPennine Express services.</p><p> </p><p>We anticipate less than £1m each day may need to be refunded for GWR services.  On LNER services, and despite a smaller disruptive impact to the operation of services, the operator has reported to the Department that it processed on average £60,000 per day of Delay Repay claims last week.</p><p> </p><p>The agreements in place to use the affected trains contain provisions that protect the taxpayer and we are currently assessing all available options to ensure taxpayers are protected.</p><p> </p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>Following rigorous safety tests and mitigations, operators, working closely with Hitachi and the Office of Rail and Road, confirmed on Thursday 13 May that many trains can return to the network.</p><p> </p><p>A number of trains have returned to service after further inspections, helping to safely restore the reliable and punctual services on GWR and LNER that passengers deserve.</p><p> </p><p>Safety is our absolute focus, which is why Hitachi will continue to carry out a comprehensive daily testing regime on affected trains. Over time, trains will be subject to a forward repair plan, which will ensure the long-term continued safe running of the fleet.</p><p> </p> more like this
