star this property answer text <p>The Government commissioned research into gender and apprenticeships and ethnicity and apprenticeships. A report was published in December 2013. Following this a new advisory group has been established to help address barriers and increase diversity within apprenticeships.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>In the last two years, projects under the Skills Funding Agency’s Equality and Diversity Good Practice Fund have encouraged people from ethnic minorities to apply for apprenticeships, including Chiltern Training, Awaaz and Heba.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>Additionally the ‘Get In. Go far’ campaign launched in September this year, aims to promote apprenticeships to a wide range of potential applicants and has generated over a million hits on YouTube.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>The number of applications made through the Apprenticeships Vacancies website from ethnic minority candidates increased from <strong>328,110</strong> in 2012/13 to <strong>382,520</strong> in 2013/14. star this property answer text <p>The specification for this programme was approved by the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP); however data protection issues emerged after contracts were issued. The Agency is working with DWP to tackle these challenges, and a learner consent form was issued to DWP Work Programme providers in November 2014. While this has enabled the sharing of data, referrals have not increased as expected. The Agency is urgently discussing further solutions with DWP to secure a satisfactory resolution.</p><p> </p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>The procurement stage of the mental health pilots is underway. The Skills Funding Agency published an invitation to tender (ITT) on the 5<sup>th</sup> January 2015 for organisations in direct receipt of Community Learning funding and on the register of training organisations, with a closing date of 6<sup>th</sup> February 2015.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>Learning providers will design courses in collaboration with local mental health services. External evaluators will assess the impact of different delivery approaches, including reduction in participants’ use of medical services, progression to further learning / training and return to work.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>The Department for Business, Innovation and Skills has committed £20 million to the mental health pilots over two years (£5m 2015-16 and £15m 2016-17).</p><p> </p> more like this

The proportion of 16 year olds - the first cohort affected by the raising of the participation age (RPA) – was unchanged. Participation data for 2014/15 is not yet available</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>There are a number of factors that may affect the take up of apprenticeships, and no assessment has been made of the distinct impact of the introduction of RPA.</p><p> </p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>Of the 6,400 traineeship completions reported to date (August 2013 to October 2014) one per cent lasted less than one month, 32 per cent lasted between one and three months, 48 per cent lasted between three and six months, and 18 per cent lasted more than six months. These data will include trainees that left earlier than originally expected for positive destinations.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>While work experience and work preparation training should be completed within 6 months of starting a traineeship, learners are able to continue to study English and/or maths for longer – for example, as part of further learning or while they are in work. Therefore, the length of traineeships can vary greatly.</p><p> </p> more like this
