unstar this property answer text <p>The planning assumption made by the House Administration each year is that there will be a sitting in September. Most activities are scheduled on that basis and costs of September sittings are factored into the original budgets.</p><p> </p><p>On that basis, the main additional cost arising from the House sitting in September is an estimated £4k for cleaning and porterage at the end of maintenance and project works to prepare for the sitting and around £1k of staff overtime for the Parliamentary Maintenance Services Team.</p> more like this

The information held by the House of Lords does not separately identify the set-up costs. For 2016-17 the resource costs recharged to the House of Lords totalled £1,104k for Parliamentary Broadcasting and £118k for the Parliamentary Broadcasting ICT Programme. Capital amounts recharged in 2016-17 were £81k for Parliamentary Broadcasting and £465k for the Parliamentary Broadcasting ICT Programme.</p> more like this

When the need for a by-election arises ERS are engaged to administer and supervise the by-election and to provide assurance that it conforms to good electoral practice. This arrangement has applied each time a by-election is held.
