It would mean creating a customs border down the Irish sea and breaking the integrity of the UK. The proposals we have put forward for our future economic relationship would allow both sides to meet our commitments to the people of Northern Ireland in full. We are working hard to get a deal on that basis. In addition, the government has made a commitment not to reduce the standards of workers’ rights from EU laws retained in UK law and will ensure that new legislation changing those laws will be assessed as to whether they uphold this commitment. The Department for Exiting the European Union now has over 450 staff based in the UK plus the expertise of over 120 officials in Brussels. We regularly review headcount to ensure we are appropriately staffed to deal with all aspects of the negotiations.</p><p><br>The Department is continuing to recruit the brightest and the best from across the civil service, the wider public sector and the private sector. The Secretary of State for Exiting the European Union visited Northern Ireland on 1 September and I visited on 5-7 October. We engaged with the Northern Ireland Executive and key representatives of businesses and civil society, including roundtables with the retail, hospitality and agrifood sectors and the Northern Ireland Council for Voluntary Action. I have also had discussions with Northern Ireland Executive Ministers for Justice, Communities and Infrastructure. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 15/11/2018 answer text <p>As set out in the White Paper the UK proposes a UK-EU free trade area for goods, to ensure continued frictionless access at the border to each other’s markets, with no tariffs, underpinned by an upfront commitment to a common rulebook on goods, including agri-food and a Facilitated Customs Arrangement to avoid customs checks and controls at our borders.</p><p>However, in the unlikely event of a no deal scenario, trade with the EU will be on non-preferential, WTO terms. This means that most favoured nation (MFN) tariffs would apply to consignments between the UK and EU.</p><p>The EU MFN rates are set out in the EU's Common Customs Tariff (CCT). The EU may change these rates between now and March 2019, but this provides an indication.</p><p>The UK will apply its MFN rates to goods imported into the UK from the EU. The government will determine and publish these new UK duty rates before we leave the EU. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 16/01/2019 answer text <p>The EU and the UK are committed to an arrangement with no tariffs between the UK and the EU. However, in the event of the UK leaving the EU without a deal, goods traded between the UK and the EU will be subject to the same requirements as third country goods, including the payment of duty. For UK exports to the EU, the EU will require payment of customs duty at the rate under the EU’s Common Customs Tariff (CCT). Full details are available on the EU’s website (<a href="http://madb.europa.eu/madb/euTariffs.htm" target="_blank">http://madb.europa.eu/madb/euTariffs.htm</a>).</p><p>The current third country duty on most types of motor vehicles is 10%, therefore the tariffs would likely be £1,500 for (a) and £2,500 for (b). However, more information is needed on the vehicles in question to provide an exact answer.
