We are both clear that we want to protect the broad range of rights and entitlements currently enjoyed by both EU citizens in the UK and UK nationals in the EU. Our work covers the breadth of the UK economy, and we are looking in detail at more than 50 sectors as well as areas of cross-cutting regulation. Parliament has agreed that we will not publish anything that would undermine the Government’s ability to negotiate the best deal for Britain. The Department for Exiting the European Union and the Department for Communities and Local Government are working closely with the Local Government Association and regional partners to understand issues related to exit and identify any regional implications.</p><p>The former Minister of State (David Jones, the Rt Hon Member for Clwyd West) held a meeting of the Local Government Associations for England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland in February 2017. The timing and detail of the implementation period will of course be a matter for negotiations. The Government welcomes President Tusk’s call for discussions on the implementation period to start immediately and his comments that it should be agreed as soon as possible.
