star this property answer text <p>The Department for Exiting the European Union, working with officials across Government, are in the process of carrying out a programme of rigorous and extensive analytical work that will contribute to our exit negotiations with the EU, to define our future partnership with the EU, and to inform our understanding of how EU exit will affect the UK’s domestic policies and frameworks.</p><p>The Department will continue to balance our commitment to transparency with the need to protect information which could undermine the UK’s ability to negotiate the best deal for the UK. star this property answer text <p>The Citizens’ Rights Working Group completed a technical note that maps the alignment between the EU and UK positions, to prioritise future discussions. We are both clear that we want to protect the broad range of rights and entitlements currently enjoyed by both EU citizens in the UK and UK nationals in the EU. However, there are, naturally, points on which our positions differ.</p><p>We are making a fair and serious offer, and want to reach a reciprocal agreement as quickly as possible.</p><p> </p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>The Department for Exiting the European Union, working with officials across Government, continues to undertake a wide range of analysis to support our negotiations. Our work covers the breadth of the UK economy, and we are looking in detail at more than 50 sectors as well as areas of cross-cutting regulation. Parliament has agreed that we will not publish anything that would undermine the Government’s ability to negotiate the best deal for Britain. Now, that the Prime Minister has initiated the Article 50 process and negotiations have begun in earnest, I can confirm that we will shortly be publishing the list of sectors we have been examining - though this of course does not mean that we have changed our position on revealing information which may harm our negotiating position.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>Ministers have engaged with elected leaders and officials from local councils across the UK and intend to continue this work throughout the exit process. The Department for Exiting the European Union and the Department for Communities and Local Government are working closely with the Local Government Association and regional partners to understand issues related to exit and identify any regional implications.</p><p>The former Minister of State (David Jones, the Rt Hon Member for Clwyd West) held a meeting of the Local Government Associations for England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland in February 2017. Further engagement with local government stakeholders is planned in the coming weeks.</p><p> </p> more like this

However, a responsible Government should prepare for all potential outcomes, and that is exactly what we are doing across the whole of Government.</p><p><strong> </strong></p><p>As part of our work preparing to make a success of our departure from the European Union, we are carrying out a wide range of analysis. Officials in DExEU and other Departments across Whitehall continue to work to provide the most up to date evidence to inform our negotiations with the EU.</p><p><strong> </strong></p><p>This work is undertaken as business as usual and so is paid for out of the Department’s budget. To ensure that Parliament is kept informed during the negotiations, the Secretary of State has committed to delivering an oral statement to Parliament after each negotiating round. The Secretary of State will deliver an oral statement on 5 September following the second and third rounds of the negotiations which took place during recess.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>The Government recognises that early agreement on an implementation period is important to provide certainty to businesses and individuals on both sides of the channel. The timing and detail of the implementation period will of course be a matter for negotiations. The Government welcomes President Tusk’s call for discussions on the implementation period to start immediately and his comments that it should be agreed as soon as possible. This very much aligns with the Government’s position.</p><p>We will continue to keep Parliament informed through regular statements and committee appearances, and will continue to timetable debates in Government time.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>We want our future relationship with the EU to be a deep and special partnership, taking in both economic and security cooperation and, in our Article 50 notification letter, we stressed that the UK will continue to share European values and security interests with our EU partners after we leave.</p><p>We are confident that the EU will have no reason to impose economic sanctions, or any other sanctions, on the UK after we leave the EU. On the contrary, the UK and EU will continue to have a shared interest in using economic sanctions to tackle common threats such as terrorism.</p> more like this
