Our immediate priorities are to ensure passengers are kept informed of alternative travel options, and that employees who have lost their jobs are assisted in accessing support and advice. This is why the Government committed to safeguard the post office network and protect existing rural services. The overall number of post offices across the UK remains at its most stable in decades with over 11,500 branches thanks to significant Government investment of over £2 billion since 2010.</p><p> </p><p>WHSmith have issued a profit warning in the wake of the Covid-19 outbreak. The Chancellor announced at the Budget a package of temporary, timely and targeted measures to support businesses through this period of disruption caused by Covid-19. Eligible businesses can apply for a loan or other form of finance through one of 40-plus providers accredited by the British Business Bank to offer the scheme. These include all the major UK banks. We are speaking with retailers daily and the Competition and Markets Authority has established a taskforce to tackle the issue. It has approached traders already to stop excessive price increases. Consumers and businesses should report any issues directly to the taskforce online. The National Audit Office considers that there are 90 regulators operating in the UK. ‘Managing Public Money’ sets out when fees and charges may be levied by a public body for a function, or whether a function can be Exchequer-funded. DHSC’s ‘Prevention is better that cure’ vision sets out the steps to deliver this mission. So far we have announced £98 million of investment through the Healthy Ageing Industrial Strategy Challenge Fund to stimulate well-designed innovations that support people to enjoy active and independent lives for longer. We have announced plans to launch a ‘Home of 2030’ <a href="https://www.gov.uk/government/news/climate-experts-asked-for-advice-on-net-zero-target" target="_blank">design and innovation competition</a> later this year – which will seek to prototype the homes of the future that are built to a standard suitable for the changing needs across a lifetime. We have part-funded the new <a href="https://www.ncl.ac.uk/nica/" target="_blank">National Innovation Centre for Ageing</a> in Newcastle, which is due to open later this year. In addition, we have announced over <a href="https://www.gov.uk/government/news/government-to-invest-over-130-million-in-new-tech-to-tackle-cancer-and-debilitating-illnesses" target="_blank">£130 million of investment to support healthcare innovation</a>, including £69.5 million through UKRI’s Strategic Priorities Fund to unlock new treatments that allow people to lead healthier and longer lives.
