The plan stated that this could see the UK benefitting from around 8,000 jobs by 2030.</p><p>There is potential for hydrogen across the UK. Initially we expect many of these jobs will be linked to clusters in our industrial heartlands. This will support our ambitions on ‘levelling up’.</p><p>The forthcoming Hydrogen Strategy will set out what is required to build a hydrogen economy fit for 2030, Carbon Budget 6 and beyond, whilst maximising economic benefits and supporting jobs and skills. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 06/09/2021 answer text <p>In 2019, the UK became the first major economy to set a net zero target in law, and our Nationally Determined Contribution to cut emissions by 78% by 2035 is the most ambitious in the world. Delivering on this target requires the deep decarbonisation of all sectors. The Government is setting incentives to ensure a smooth transition to net zero across industry, and we are working closely with the construction sector to reduce its emissions contribution.</p><p>In June, we published the <a href="https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/990289/National_Procurement_Policy_Statement.pdf" target="_blank">National Procurement Policy Statement</a>. This sets out the principles that all contracting authorities need to consider when procuring goods and services, and one of these is tackling climate change and reducing waste. The Government has also published <a href="https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/procurement-policy-note-0621-taking-account-of-carbon-reduction-plans-in-the-procurement-of-major-government-contracts" target="_blank">Procurement Policy Note (PPN) 06/21</a> which requires suppliers bidding for major government contracts to commit to achieving net zero by 2050, and to provide emissions reporting.</p><p>In March, the Construction Leadership Council (CLC) launched <em>CO<sub>2</sub>nstructZero,</em> a cross-industry decarbonisation programme. This prioritises development of innovative low-carbon materials including concrete, and it will advance low-carbon solutions for manufacturing production processes and distribution. The CLC will report regularly to Government on its progress against <em>CO<sub>2</sub>nstructZero</em> priorities.</p><p>In addition, BEIS funded the Industrial Fuel Switching Competition. The concrete and cement sectors are carrying out demonstrations of a '<em>zero carbon fuel mix</em>' for cement kilns in 2021, funded by this programme. Further research funded by the BEIS Industrial Energy Efficiency Accelerator programme is enabling the sector to formulate and demonstrate new low carbon multi-component cements for the UK market. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 10/09/2021 answer text <p>As set out in last year’s Energy White Paper, the Government will set a clear path that sees the gradual move away from fossil fuel boilers in homes over the next fifteen years as and when individuals decide to replace their appliances. By the mid-2030s we expect all newly installed heating systems to be low carbon or to be appliances that we are confident can be converted to a clean fuel supply. There is no single technology alternative to fossil fuels. Electric heat pumps and hydrogen, green gas and shared heat networks all have their part to play.</p><p> </p><p>In all pathways to net zero, heat pumps will have a major role to play. We are pursuing policies to grow the heat pump market to 600,000 installations a year by 2028 and are providing funding support to deliver these targets through schemes such as the Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) and forthcoming Clean Heat Grant.</p><p> </p><p>The Department is also working with industry to assess the feasibility, costs and benefits of using 100% hydrogen for heating, to enable strategic decisions in 2026 on the role of hydrogen in decarbonising heating. We aim to consult later this year on the case for enabling, or requiring, new natural gas boilers to be easily convertible to use hydrogen (‘hydrogen-ready’) by 2026.
