Continued investment to prevent and treat malnutrition is important, particularly as countries face worsening levels of malnutrition in the face of COVID-19. The Secretary of State reiterates the importance of nutrition in her endorsement for the DFID-funded Global Nutrition Report, which will be published in May.</p><p>DFID is looking at options for the UK commitment now that both the Olympic pledging event and the main Nutrition for Growth Summit have been postponed. The UK remains committed to preventing and treating malnutrition as part of our commitment to end the preventable deaths of mothers, new-borns and children. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction answer text <p>The Prime Minister appointed separate Secretaries of State for the Foreign Office and DFID in the recent reshuffle.</p><p>The Integrated Review will be a wholesale reassessment of the UK’s foreign, defence, security and development policy. DFID is closely involved in the Review’s work. We are clear that tackling global poverty is in the UK’s interest and is the right thing to do.</p><p>A range of departments across Whitehall undertake ODA programming, with DFID support and guidance, but most UK ODA is still spent by DFID. All UK ODA is spent in accordance with the rules set by the OECD DAC and the UK’s International Development Act 2002. As outlined in the Conservative manifesto, this Government will continue to be a champion of the rules-based international system. Where the UK has considered the international aid rules to be outdated, we have led the way in working with others to push for reforms. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction answer text <p>The UK is proud to have raised $8.8 billion for Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance at the Global Vaccine Summit on 4 June. The UK pledged £1.65 billion to Gavi for 2021 to 2025. The Gavi Alliance, which includes the World Health Organisation and UNICEF, will play a vital role in maintaining essential services, including routine immunisation, throughout the pandemic. Routine immunisation is the strongest shield against secondary outbreaks of vaccine preventable diseases. The funding raised by all donors at the Global Vaccine Summit will enable Gavi to immunise 300 million more children and save up to 8 million lives by 2025. The UK has also reallocated $60 million for Gavi’s Covax AMC, to ensure access in the poorest countries to any COVID-19 vaccine.</p><p>The UK is a key supporter of the COVID-19 pandemic response. This includes a global health response led by the World Health Organisation (WHO). The UK is a key donor to the WHO and has already contributed £75 million to help the organisation lead international efforts to stop the spread of COVID-19 and end the pandemic.</p> question first answered 10/06/2020 16:18:25

As UNFPA’s largest donor and a key advocate of the empowerment of women and girls including their sexual and reproductive health and rights, DFID is working closely with UNFPA to ensure continued access to reproductive health products and services.</p><p>Through the UK’s existing support to UNFPA, including the UNFPA Supplies programme (£425 million between 2020-2025) the UK is providing high quality family planning and essential life-saving maternal health medicines to those in need, including commodities required for post-abortion care and medical abortions where it is legal.</p><p>Recognising the needs of women and girls impacted by COVID-19, DFID has also committed £10 million of UK emergency funding to UNFPA through the Global Humanitarian Response Plan. This funding will help maintain the supply of reproductive health commodities, including contraception, to ensure continued access for women and girls. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction answer text <p>Ending new HIV infections and preventing AIDS-related deaths is a critical part of the UK government’s renewed focus on ending preventable deaths of mothers, new-borns, and children by 2030.</p><p>The UK is a world leader in efforts to end the AIDS epidemic. Last year the UK made a £1.4 billion pledge to the Global Fund to fight AIDS, TB and Malaria for the 6th replenishment covering 2020 to 2022. This supports the commitment to end the AIDS epidemic as a public health threat by 2030. In 2018 alone, the Global Fund provided 18.9 million people with treatment in 2018 and protected nearly 700,000 babies from being infected by their mothers.</p><p>We are working to expand access to treatment, while reducing new infections, particularly among adolescent girls, women, and other marginalised populations, who face stigma and discrimination.</p> question first answered 12/03/2020 15:49:09
