star this property answer text <p>The UK’s Voluntary National Review (VNR) will take stock of the UK’s domestic and international activity in support of all 17 Goals. The final report will have a chapter for each Goal which will include information on action the UK Government is taking in relation to each Goal, along with separate sections which highlight action being taken by the administrations in Scotland and Wales, and in Northern Ireland. The VNR will also include case studies throughout, which will shine a spotlight on activity by organisations beyond Government, including business and civil society.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>The UK is deeply concerned about the rise in cholera in Yemen this year, with a suspected 300,000 cases recorded between January and April 2019. In response, the UK rapidly disbursed £18 million last month to the UN’s pooled fund and UNICEF to help tackle the issue. We have seen a decline in suspected cholera cases in the last five weeks and hope this continues.</p><p>To help prepare for outbreaks of cholera, the UK is leading a joint Met Office, NASA and US scientist team to accurately predict where the disease will spread to in Yemen. We contributed 25% towards the cost of cholera vaccination campaigns this year which have vaccinated over 2 million people in both Houthi and Government of Yemen controlled areas to date.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>We remain very concerned by the potential funding gap the UN humanitarian response in Yemen is facing this year. The 2019 Yemen Pledging Conference in Geneva this March saw $2.6 billion pledged by international donors (against a $4.2 billion UN humanitarian appeal for 2019), approximately 20% of which has been disbursed to date.</p><p>The UK is regularly engaging with other donors at senior levels to urge the rapid disbursement of funding to the UN to enable it to cover urgent needs.</p><p>The UK has also brought forward funding and will have made available over half of our £200 million pledge for this financial year (2019/2020) by the beginning of June.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>The UK is the third largest donor to the Global Polio Eradication Initiative and has committed £1.3 billion in total since 1995. In Afghanistan GPEI are working to reach mobile populations where children have been chronically missed by vaccination campaigns. In Nigeria activities are focussed on trying to reach all children with vaccinations to close immunity gaps that allow polio to remain.</p><p> </p><p>The UK are observers on the Polio Oversight Board and represent all state donors on the Strategy Committee, which gives us a position from which to influence the activities of the fund at a strategic level. We regularly review progress in the endemic countries, including Afghanistan, Pakistan and Nigeria and DFID country offices in each of these countries also have valuable insight by engaging with the programme in country.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p><strong></strong></p><p>The UK is committed to meeting the needs of all internally displaced persons, whether they are displaced as a result of conflict or natural disasters. <em> </em>DFID provides funding to key agencies involved in responding to the needs of internally displaced persons, including the Office for Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and the International Organisation for Migration (IOM).</p><p> </p><p>The UK is a significant humanitarian donor in many countries with displaced populations. For example in South Sudan, in 2017/18 our support reached over 420,000 people with food assistance, over 370,000 women and children with nutrition support, and over 680,000 people with access to safe drinking water and/or improved sanitation facilities, many of whom are internally displaced. In Iraq, DFID support has helped provide food assistance to over 408,000 people, emergency cash transfers to over 274,000 people, and life-saving healthcare services to over 4.1m people, including those internally displaced. Additionally, in Syria where there are over 6 million of internally displaced persons, DFID has spent over £1 billion in humanitarian response.</p><p> </p><p>The UK has provided £36 million in response to Cyclone Idai which is estimated to have affected 2.6 million people in Mozambique, Malawi and Zimbabwe. UK support includes the provision of an estimated 7,550 shelter kits and 100 family tents in Mozambique, emergency shelter for 65,000, food assistance for 150,000 people for two months in Malawi and health and child protection assistance in Zimbabwe.</p><p> </p><p>Furthermore the UK is working with UN Member states and the Secretary General to establish a High level Panel on Internally Displaced People, with aim of galvanising action to reduce the numbers of internally displaced people provide more effective protection and assistance.</p><p> </p>
