Through initiatives such as Preventing Sexual Violence in Conflict (PSVI) and the Ending Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (GBV) in Humanitarian Crises Conference (Oslo Conference) we are continually challenging ourselves and others to step up and do more to tackle the problem.</p><p> </p><p>At the Oslo Conference the UK announced an additional £7 million in funding for GBV in Syria. We are committed to continuing to step up our GBV prevention and response but these efforts are not limited to DFID funding. UK leadership includes advocating for all humanitarian actors to recognise SGBV as a shared priority and investing in evidence that demonstrates both the scale of the problem and effective interventions to address SGBV. We are concerned by the high levels of poverty, unemployment, and food insecurity, as well as the fragile health system, shrinking Gazan economy and the lack of access to consistent supplies of electricity.</p><p> </p><p>DFID recently announced an aid package of £2 million to the International Committee for the Red Cross to support delivery of medicines, equipment and rehabilitation services. The UK’s new economic development programme aims to help the economy in Gaza and the West Bank by increasing trade and creating jobs. The UK has also made a commitment to UNRWA of up to £80m over the next two years to help provide health services and education to Palestinian refugees living across the Middle East. The UK Government has used and reported on the Guttmacher Institute estimates in our Single Departmental Plan Family Planning sector page since July 2018.</p><p> </p><p>DFID’s bilateral and multi-country programmes take an integrated approach in order to meet a wide range of women’s reproductive health needs. For example, providing a woman with holistic care for gender-based violence, HIV counselling, safe-abortion care and information on family planning. Because of the integrated nature of this work, it is not possible to provide a break-down of funding on safe abortion services alone. The final report will have a chapter for each Goal which will include information on action the UK Government is taking in relation to each Goal, along with separate sections which highlight action being taken by the administrations in Scotland and Wales, and in Northern Ireland. DFID, alongside the Department of Health and Social Care, provides support to developing countries' health and hygiene services, which also supports tackling antimicrobial resistance.</p><p> </p><p>DFID support includes work to prevent infection and, in turn, reduce the need for antimicrobials. For example, through DFID’s support to GAVI, the Vaccine Alliance, the UK will help immunise 300 million children between 2016 and 2020.</p><p> </p><p>DFID also supports the prompt diagnosis and treatment of disease and the development of new drugs and diagnostic tools to treat resistant infection. DFID investment in the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, TB and Malaria contributed towards treating 102,000 people for drug-resistant tuberculosis in 2017. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 10/06/2019 answer text <p>As the third largest bilateral humanitarian donor, the UK is a global leader in supporting people in acute need, including those at risk of food insecurity. In 2017, we were amongst the first to raise the alarm and to provide support for populations at risk of dying from starvation in Somalia, South Sudan, Yemen and North East Nigeria. We provided £170 million for provision of humanitarian aid in Somalia in 2017, supporting those at risk of famine and in 2017/18 our support in South Sudan reached over 420,000 people with food assistance. Since 2013, we have spent approximately £1.3 billion supporting the scale up of nutrition services in humanitarian contexts including Yemen, South Sudan, Somalia, Nigeria and the DRC.</p><p> </p><p>Our approach is to act early to save more lives, and to build the resilience of communities and states to crises and shocks. Our work on humanitarian early warning systems raises awareness of crises where food security is deteriorating and informs timely responses to mitigate the impact of acute food insecurity. DFID and the Department for Health and Social Care are working closely together on tackling AMR and senior officials have met on this issue.</p><p> </p><p>As part of tackling AMR, DFID continues to support health and water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) programmes which emphasise the importance of improving infection control, and WASH in health facilities, which is key for the prevention of infections and antimicrobial resistance.
