unstar this property answer text <p>The Department funds health and care research through the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR).</p><p>The NIHR welcomes funding applications for research into any aspect of human health, including on children’s mental health. These applications are subject to peer review and judged in open competition, with awards being made on the basis of the importance of the topic to patients and health and care services, value for money and scientific quality.</p><p>The NIHR funds high quality clinical trials including randomised controlled trials and health services delivery research to provide practice-based evidence through programmes such as the Health Services and Delivery Research Programme and Health Technology Assessment Programme.</p> more like this

unstar this property answer text <p>We announced in June that the Government will publish a White Paper by the end of the year.</p><p>The White Paper will set out the Government’s response, in full, to the independent review of the Mental Health Act, and will pave the way for new legislation.</p><p>We remain committed to reforming mental health law and will develop and bring forward legislation when Parliamentary time allows.</p> more like this

unstar this property answer text <p>Expanding access to children’s mental health services is a priority for this Government, and a core part of the NHS Long Term Plan. The National Health Service has set an ambitious goal of an extra 345,000 children and young people aged 0-25 receiving support via NHS-funded mental health services by 2023/24 and we are providing an additional £1.4 billion to improve specialist children and young people’s mental health services between 2015-21.</p><p> </p><p>The Long Term Plan sets out the NHS’s commitment to grow investment in mental health services faster than the NHS budget overall for each of the next five years, and to grow funding for children and young people’s mental health services faster than both overall NHS funding and total mental health spending.</p><p>From 2018/19, clinical commissioning groups are also required to have their delivery of the Standard independently audited and to publish the results of this audit on their websites.</p> more like this

Spending for children and young people’s mental health services will grow faster than the overall spend on mental health, which will itself be growing faster than the overall National Health Service budget.</p><p>The NHS has set a goal of an extra 345,000 children and young people aged up to 25 years receiving support via NHS-funded mental health services by 2023/24.</p><p>Following on from our Green Paper, in December 2018 we launched the first 25 trailblazer sites that will provide new school-based mental health support teams for those with mild to moderate mental health issues. On 12 July, NHS England announced that more of these mental health support teams are to be set up in 57 areas during 2019/20.</p> more like this

unstar this property answer text <p>Public Health England (PHE) works to reduce the incidence of sudden infant death syndrome.</p><p>PHE does this through the provision of professional leadership and guidance to the health visiting profession such as PHE’s Early Years High Impact Area five - Managing minor illnesses and reducing accidents, to improve outcomes for all children and prevent avoidable deaths. This will help meet the orthodontic needs of local residents within each borough. unstar this property answer text <p>The Getting It Right First Time (GIRFT) programme aims to drive improvements in medical and surgical specialties through clinical leadership and the use of data to identify and reduce unwarranted variation in practice. By tackling variations in the way services are delivered across the National Health Service, and by sharing best practice between trusts, GIRFT identifies changes that will help improve care and patient outcomes, as well as delivering efficiencies such as the reduction of unnecessary procedures and cost savings.</p><p>The GIRFT programme has recently concluded a pilot looking at applying the GIRFT methodology in primary care. The Department, NHS England and NHS Improvement are reviewing the findings of the pilot and will agree the appropriate next steps in the context of the new GP contract and Primary Care Networks currently being established which have an associated improvement support programme.</p> more like this
