Accurate figures on persecution of Christians are difficult to obtain but non-govermental organisations estimate that at least 21 Christians have been given long prison sentences in Iran since May 2017 for practice of their beliefs. more like this

star this property answer text <p>​Iran's human rights record continues to be of serious concern to the UK. This includes persecution of religious minorities, as well as concerning trends such as the continued use of the death penalty, restrictions on freedom of expression and limits on freedom of assembly. We regularly raise human rights with the Iranian Government at all levels, on 11 January, the Foreign Secretary discussed Iran's response to the recent Iran protests with Foreign Minister Zarif, emphasising that international obligations on human rights should be observed.</p> more like this

As part of the EU, we have sanctioned over 80 Iranian individuals and entities responsible for human rights violations, and the UK has played a key role in identifying and maintaining the designations.</p><p>Alongside our EU partners we continue regularly monitor and review these designations.</p> more like this

We call on Iran to respect the rights and freedoms of all its citizens no matter what their religion or belief.
