The UK is committed to working with all parties to maintain calm, avoid provocation and uphold the Status Quo in order to ensure the safety and security of Al Haram Al Sharif/Temple Mount and all who worship and visit there. We support the freedom of Muslims to worship at Al Haram Al Sharif. In our meetings with the Israeli authorities we regularly raise the need to respect the status quo of the holy sites in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 04/02/2019 answer text <p>I summoned the Zimbabwean Ambassador on 17 January, to express our concern at the ongoing situation there, urge the security forces to stop using disproportionate force, and to investigate any cases of alleged human rights abuses. On 21 January, the Foreign Secretary, in a public message to President Mnangagwa, urged him not to turn back the clock and to work with all Zimbabweans in dialogue for a better future. They are a tool used in conjunction with other methods, including political dialogue, as part of an integrated policy approach. They are targeted on specific individual and Zimbabwe Defence Industries and do no damage to the wider economy or the people of Zimbabwe.</p><p>The UK and our EU partners continue to assess the appropriateness of sanctions in light of recent developments. The crackdown on demonstrations in January 2019, as well as the disproportionate use of force by the authorities, called into question the Zimbabwean Government's commitment to uphold human rights and the rule of law. We do not publicise our partners to avoid putting them at risk.</p><p>The UK does not support any candidate or political party in Zimbabwe. We have made clear to the Government of Zimbabwe that opposition parties should be free to campaign peacefully. UK diplomats hold regular meetings with political leaders from all main parties. The UK is seriously concerned about the increasing numbers of abductions, arrests and assault of civil society, trade union and opposition activists and the banning of protests in Zimbabwe. Zimbabwe remains one of the UK’s 30 Human Rights Priority Countries globally. The UK Ambassador met the Zimbabwean Foreign Minister on 18 October and discussed the economic crisis and political situation in Zimbabwe, reinforcing the need for comprehensive political and economic reform and the protection of the poorest.</p><p>The UK is providing £128 million of aid to Zimbabwe in 2019/20 focusing on poverty reduction, humanitarian assistance and standing up for human rights and the rule of law. No money is channelled directly through the government.
