	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 16/10/2017 answer text <p>The UK supports the Saudi-led Coalition military intervention, which came at the request of legitimate President Hadi, to deter aggression by the Houthis, and allow for the return of the legitimate Yemeni government. We are aware of reports of alleged violations of International Humanitarian Law (IHL) and we take these very seriously. It is important that credible allegations of violations of IHL are investigated. We regularly press the need for the Saudi-led Coalition to conduct thorough and conclusive investigations into reports of alleged violations of IHL. Saudi Arabia has publicly stated that it is investigating reports of alleged violations of IHL, and that lessons will be acted upon. We welcome the reports issued by the Joint Incidents Assessment Team, including the 15 reports issued on 12 September (taking the total number to 36). On 12 September, the JIAT issued 15 reports, bringing the total number of reports it has issued to 36. The Foreign Secretary raised the humanitarian situation in his discussion with the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia on 25 August</p><p>The UK has also taken the lead in urging all parties to ensure rapid, safe and unhindered humanitarian access. This call was repeated by the UN Security Council Presidential Statement proposed and coordinated by the UK in June. This September at the UN General Assembly I hosted a Ministerial-level meeting with Saudi Arabia, the UAE, the US and UN Special Envoy for Yemen. In 2017/18, we are committing £155 million in aid to Yemen, prioritising life-saving interventions including food and nutrition support to 1.7 million people and clean water and sanitation for an expected 1.2 million people.</p><p>Beyond that, restarting peace talks is our top priority. The Yemeni parties must engage constructively and in good faith to overcome obstacles and find a political solution to end the conflict. We have played a leading role in diplomatic efforts, including bringing together key regional and international actors to drive forward progress towards a peaceful solution. The UK continues to support the work of UN Special Envoy, Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed. We are providing over £1 million to the UN Special Envoy's office to bolster the UN's capacity to facilitate the peace process.</p><p>In the longer term, the UK supports the development of a stable and prosperous Yemen which poses no threats to the region or internationally. The UK proposed a UN Security Council Presidential Statement (PRST) which was agreed on 15 June. This statement called for a return to UN-led peace talks and an end to the fighting. We support the UN Special Envoy to Yemen, Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed, in facilitating a credible peace process in Yemen and we are providing £1 million to the Special Envoy's office to bolster UN capacity to facilitate the peace process.</p><p>The UK is concerned by the human rights situation in Yemen and takes allegations of violations of international human rights law very seriously. That is why we strongly supported the Human Rights Council resolution passed on 29 September. We welcome the agreement of an impactful, single consensus resolution on the human rights situation in Yemen. This text has the potential to make a real difference for Yemeni people.
