unstar this property answer text <p>The Minister for Africa, Minister Baldwin, spoke to Zimbabwe's Foreign Minister on 29 January. The Minister also summoned the Zimbabwean Ambassador on 17 January to express our concern at the ongoing situation in Zimbabwe. Minister Baldwin urged Zimbabwe to stop disproportionate use of force by the security forces and investigate any cases of alleged human rights abuses. On 21 January the Foreign Secretary, in a public message to President Mnangagwa, urged him not to turn back the clock and to work with all Zimbabweans in dialogue for a better future.</p><p>We will continue to raise our serious concerns and push for a thorough investigation with the Government of Zimbabwe, through our Embassy in Harare and Ministerial interventions.</p> more like this

unstar this property answer text <p>Whilst prisoners and their families have a right to support in line with their social needs as they would in the UK, we use our strong partnership with the Palestinian Authority (PA) to lobby them to reform the prisoner payments system to become more needs-based, transparent and affordable. Minister of State for the Middle East, Alistair Burt, has raised these concerns with the Palestinian Foreign Minister, and British Government officials regularly do likewise. No UK aid is used for prisoner payments to Palestinian prisoners or their families.</p> more like this

unstar this property answer text <p>The Malaysian government is fully aware of our position on capital punishment and we continue to raise this issue at the highest levels.</p><p>We warmly welcome the Malaysian Cabinet’s announcement in October 2018 to abolish the death penalty. We hope the necessary legislation is introduced in the Malaysian Parliament as soon as possible.</p><p>The Foreign Secretary discussed our support for human rights reforms in Malaysia, including on the death penalty with his counterpart, Foreign Minister Saifuddin Abdullah, during his visit to Kuala Lumpur 3-4 January.</p><p>The Minister for Asia and the Pacific encouraged early progress on the abolition of the death penalty with the Malaysian authorities during his visit to Malaysia in October 2018.</p><p>Our High Commission in Kuala Lumpur continues to raise this issue in their discussions with the Malaysian government.</p><p>​</p> more like this

We are aware of the difficulties facing Palestinian olive growers. We have expressed our serious concerns to the Israeli Government and security officials about the destruction of olive trees and the prevention of access to them on a number of occasions. The British Government condemns any violence by settlers against Palestinians. Under international law, Israel, as the occupying power, has an obligation to take all measures in its power to protect the Palestinian population from all acts of violence. ​</p> more like this
