As part of the Department for International Development’s £75 million migration programme working along the Central Mediterranean route, up to £5 million will be allocated to humanitarian assistance and protection for migrants and refugees in Libya. Alongside this, we continue to help fund the European Union Trust Fund, which works in a number of countries, including Libya, where it focuses on improving conditions for migrants in detention centres. Alongside this the UK has also committed to increase efforts to tackle smuggling and trafficking by building the capacity of Libyan law enforcement agencies, and taking steps to hold those responsible to account. In June 2018, the UK co-designated UN sanctions against six Libyan and Eritrean traffickers along with France, US, Germany and the Netherlands.
more like this

The Office of the Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories informed Embassy officials that supplies carried on the vessels were delivered into the Gaza Strip via the Erez crossing. Our thoughts are with the victims of the PKK terrorist attacks, and the civilians who have been caught up in the violence. The Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, my Rt Hon. Friend the Member for Runnymede and Weybridge (Mr Hammond), and the Minister for Europe, my Rt Hon. Friend the Member for Aylesbury (Mr Lidington), and our Ambassador to Turkey, have discussed with the Turkish government the importance of respecting human rights and avoiding civilian casualties in the fight against terrorism. We believe the first responsibility for investigating any alleged violations falls to Turkey; and that the PKK needs to cease violence in order to create the conditions for political resolution of the difficulties in the south east.
more like this

star this property answer text
The British Government consistently and unreservedly condemns torture and cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment and punishment, and it is a priority for us to combat it wherever and whenever it occurs. In my statement on 26 June to mark International Day in Support of Victims of Torture, I reaffirmed the UK's commitment to combat torture and encourage states to ratify the Convention against Torture: https://www.gov.uk/government/news/foreign-office-marks-international-day-in-support-of-victims-of-torture-2014. The Foreign and Commonwealth Office Strategy for the Prevention of Torture, published in October 2011, further sets out our work in this field and applies globally.

The policy of the British Government is clear: we do not participate in, solicit or encourage the use of torture or cruel, inhuman and degrading treatment or punishment. We neither condone such activity, nor do we ask others to do it on our behalf. We remain committed to ensuring that any allegations of UK involvement in torture are treated seriously, examined thoroughly and can be investigated by the police with full co-operation from the British Government.
