Waste products from this process will be stored safely and securely in industry standard containers, and will subsequently be disposed of in Germany and Finland, in accordance with national legislation. He showed strong leadership and great patience in getting the parties to the conflict round the same table in Geneva and take the first steps towards potentially constructive dialogue. The responsibility for the collapse of negotiations rests wholly with the regime's refusal to engage in discussion on an agenda for future talks put forward by Mr Brahimi. Such actions are utterly appalling and we call for their immediate release. The Coalition is working to realise the aspirations of the vast majority of Syrians for a democratic and pluralist future for their country. The Assad regime has lost all legitimacy by responding to the demands of its people for their basic rights and freedoms with escalating, and horrifying, brutality: using chemical weapons, heavy artillery and air power against civilians; unlawfully detaining and torturing its own people, including children; and preventing life-saving humanitarian support from getting to those who need it. The most effective way to tackle terrorism in Syria is to support the moderate opposition in its efforts to protect the Syrian people from the twin threats of tyranny and terrorism. We do not provide support to extremist groups, and the need to prevent diversion to these groups is built into our programmes. In August 2013 we gave the Supreme Military Council (SMC) of the Free Syrian Army escape hoods, detector paper and nerve-agent pre-treatment tablets to protect them from chemical weapons attack. This financial year the UK will be providing £1 million of non-lethal equipment to the moderate armed opposition. The exact equipment will depend on the requirements of the recipients, but could include commercially available communications equipment, commercially available vehicles, fuel, portable generators and logistics supplies such as clothing, rations and tents; and individual medical kits. The UK Government also expects to make a significant contribution to the recently announced US-led programme to train and equip the Syrian moderate armed opposition. Details of how that contribution will be delivered are currently being scoped. We also provide support to the political umbrella group the National Coalition. This includes advisory and strategic communications support. Friend the Member for Witney (Mr Cameron), set out in an oral statement to Parliament on 26 September, Official Report, column 1255, the UK will tackle the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) using all the resources at our disposal. These include humanitarian efforts, which Britain is already leading, aimed at helping those displaced by ISIL’s onslaught, and diplomatic efforts to engage the widest possible coalition of countries. There is now a coalition of over forty countries including a number of Arab countries. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 07/07/2015 answer text <p>The UK does not supply weapons to anyone in Syria, and we have played a major role in trying to prevent both the regime and extremists in Syria from acquiring weapons. <br><br>UN sanctions require that no states, groups or individuals may make available arms or funds to designated groups or individuals. In February 2015 the UN Security Council unanimously adopted UN Security Council Resolution (UNSCR) 2199, which the British Government co-sponsored. UNSCR 2199 specifically targets the fund raising methods used by Al-Qaida and its affiliates operating in Syria and Iraq. <br><br>The UK is also at the forefront of efforts to broaden the EU Syria sanctions regime, which limits the regime's access to funding. This year the EU has listed 24 new Syrian regime ministers who are jointly responsible for the regime’s reprehensible policies. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 09/06/2015 answer text <p>We understand that the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) are still holding more than 200 Assyrian Christians who were abducted in February from villages along the Khabour river in Hassakeh Province of North-East Syria. We believe that, in another act of appalling barbarity, ISIL executed at least 15 of the hostages, and that 23 Assyrian Christians have since been released following the payment of ransom money by the families, and another two freed when the area was liberated at the end of May. We remain concerned for the remaining hostages, most of whom are women, children and elderly people. We support the UN Security Council Statement condemning the abductions and demanding the Christians immediate release.</p><p>The UK is committed to defeating ISIL, an organisation that has no place in today’s world.
