<p>The Government has taken steps to prevent problem debt from occurring and to support
those who have fallen into it. Funding for free debt advice has risen to almost £56million
in England this year. That’s enough to fund 560,000 debt advice sessions, an increase
of 85,000 from last year.</p><p> </p><p>To increase access to free financial guidance,
the Government has established the new Money and Pensions Service (MAPS). MAPS supports
employers to help employees manage their money, including through encouraging referrals
to free debt advice. MAPS will publish its national strategy on improving people’s
financial capability later this year.</p>
