star this property answer text <p>Flights between regions of the UK are subject to the short haul rate of Air Passenger Duty. Under State aid rules, it is not possible to vary tax rates for domestic flights only.</p><p> </p><p>The government has made a number of reforms to reduce the effect of APD on consumers, including exempting children on economy flights. This could save a family of four £52 on a roundtrip within the UK.</p><p> </p><p>Like all taxes, Air Passenger Duty remains under review. In June we closed a call for evidence on ‘VAT, Air Passenger Duty and tourism in Northern Ireland’. It is the government’s intention to report at Budget.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>On receipt of a VAT claim return, HMRC will issue an automated refund within 6 working days for the vast majority of customers, including most small business contractors.</p><p> </p><p>Where there is an exception to this automated process and the customer has provided all the required information, HMRC will strive to adhere to the 30 day turnaround. star this property answer text <p>The Government has not made a formal assessment of any potential implications of recent changes in the value of cryptocurrencies. However, the Government continues to monitor developments in the cryptocurrency market.</p><p>The Chancellor of the Exchequer launched the Cryptoassets Taskforce in March, consisting of HM Treasury, the Bank of England and the Financial Conduct Authority. The Taskforce is considering the risks and potential benefits of cryptoassets and other applications of distributed ledger technology in financial services, as well as assessing what, if any, regulation is required in response. The Taskforce will publish a report in the Autumn.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>At Autumn Statement 2014, the Government reformed SDLT on residential properties, cutting the tax for 98% of people who pay it, unless they are purchasing additional property. These changes benefit those moving up the housing ladder</p><p> </p><p>Since 2010, the Government has delivered 1.1 million additional homes in England, including over 375,000 affordable homes.</p><p> </p><p>At Autumn Budget 2017, the Government announced that it will invest an additional £15.3 billion in housing over the next five years, bringing the total financial support over this period to at least £44 billion.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>Consistent increases by this government to the personal allowance have also increased the Marriage Allowance, as it is linked. The personal allowance increase announced at Autumn Budget means that in 2018-19, an individual will be able to transfer £1,190 to a partner, compared to £1,060 in 2015-16.</p><p> </p><p>This means that in 2018-19 the Marriage Allowance is worth £238 per year, or £900 if backdated up to 4 years.</p><p> </p><p>This government is showing continuing commitment to the Marriage Allowance, and announced at Autumn Budget 2017 an extension to allow claims on behalf of deceased partners.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>The government remains clear on its support for pubs, which are a vital part of local communities.</p><p> </p><p>Pubs are benefiting from wider action on alcohol duty and business rates. Autumn Budget 2017 announced a freeze to all alcohol duties, including beer duty. Cuts to alcohol taxes since 2013 mean the average tax on a typical pint of beer is estimated to be 12p lower than it otherwise would have been. Pubs are also benefiting from recent cuts to business rates worth over £10 billion by 2023.</p><p> </p><p>All taxes are kept under review. Future decisions on business rates will be taken as part of the normal Budget process.</p> more like this
