unstar this property answer text <p>At the Spring Budget 2020 following withdrawal from the EU the OBR estimated that there was £42.3bn more to spend on public services between 2020-21 and 2024-25 than would have been the case had we stayed in the EU. This additional spending has been included in the overall spending plans set out at Spending Reviews since we left the EU.</p><p>The financial settlement as set out in the Withdrawal Agreement ensures the UK only pays its past obligations as a departing Member State and does not relate to any continuing or future arrangements. As set out in the European Union Finances Statement 2023 (available in the library of the House and on Gov.uk), the UK is estimated to have paid £6.1bn in net liabilities in 2023 as part of this settlement.</p><p>Where the UK has decided it is in its interests to cooperate with the EU further, for instance on Horizon Europe, details of payments are set out in the relevant departments’ annual account.</p> more like this

unstar this property answer text <p>As was set out in HM Treasury’s latest EU Finances Statement, the Government’s latest forecast of the total net cost of the financial settlement reached with the EU under the Withdrawal Agreement is £30.2 billion. Of this, £8.1 billion corresponds to payments made before the end of 2020, and £22.1 billion corresponds to payments to be made after that date.</p><p> </p><p>The Government has also committed to making a financial contribution to fund its participation in certain EU programmes in the future under the Trade and Cooperation Agreement. The ultimate cost of this commitment will be determined by factors including the Gross Domestic Product of the UK and EU Member States, and finalised EU budgets for the programmes in question.</p> more like this

unstar this property answer text <p>The OBR’s most recent estimate of the financial settlement, taking account of Article 50 extension to 31<sup>st</sup> October 2019, estimated that the vast majority of payments (85%) will be made by 2025. The OBR will publish an updated forecast at the Budget.</p><p> </p><p>The Government’s objective is to publish information that gives an accurate and comprehensive picture of the financial settlement including, for example, forecast payments to and receipts from the EU. As part of this, the Government presents to Parliament each year the European Union Finances statement, and the 2018 version includes an annex devoted to EU withdrawal and detailed information on the financial settlement. The Government will continue to produce the EU Finances statement now that we have left the EU.</p> more like this
