	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 18/09/2018 answer text <p>The UK has a high degree of food security, built on access to a range of sources including strong domestic production and imports from third countries.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>The UK’s current production to supply ratio is 60% for all food and 75% for indigenous-type foods. This has remained steady over the last decade and is not low in the context of the past 150 years.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>Self-sufficiency is not in itself an indicator of food security. The UK has historically been a net importer of food and sources from a diverse range of stable countries and this will continue once we leave the EU. Achieving increased self-sufficiency in indigenous products would not necessarily insulate us from shocks to the system, for example, weather and disease can affect the harvests and yields.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>While we are making sensible preparations for all eventualities as we leave the EU, there are no plans to stockpile food. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 18/09/2018 answer text <p>The assessment in the Forecasting 2020 Waste Arisings and Treatment Report, published in February 2013, noted that residual waste treatment infrastructure is key to England’s efforts to meet its target of reducing the amount of biodegradable municipal waste (BMW) going to landfill. England is on course to meet that target which is 35% of the 1995 baseline by 2020.</p><p> </p><p>Waste in the UK is a devolved matter so Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland will have their own assessments.</p><p> </p><p>In terms of the regional adequacy, the Government’s view is that local authorities are best placed to assess their residual waste management requirements to meet their own local needs and priorities.</p><p> </p><p>The forthcoming Resources and Waste Strategy will aim to ensure we have the right mix of waste infrastructure that maximises its value as a resource and minimises its environmental impact.</p><p> </p> answering member constituency Suffolk Coastal answering member printed Dr Thérèse Coffey question first answered 18/09/2018 12:42:00 answering member 4098 label Biography information for Dr Thérèse Coffey

	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 18/09/2018 answer text <p>Predator control plays a useful role in the conservation of ground-nesting birds. To date, English agri-environment schemes have not funded predator control although in some situations this may be encouraged through guidance. The current Countryside Stewardship scheme, for the first time, includes capital items which support the deployment of permanent and temporary anti-predator fencing. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 18/09/2018 answer text <p>As a signatory of the African-Eurasian Migratory Waterbird Agreement, we are taking a leading role in the implementation of an international plan to address the conservation status of the curlew. The plan includes a requirement for land management techniques that reduce levels of nest and chick predation to those associated with stable populations.
