We directly work with Cameroonian forces on capacity building to tackle violent extremist groups in the Far North. Our training includes a focus on international human rights standards.</p><p>We are aware allegations of abuses attributed to the Battalion d'Intervention Rapide (BIR). We have emgaged with the BIR on this incident. The BIR recently reaffirmed assurances that any forces accused of human rights violations will be investigated and those found guilty will be punished. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 08/02/2022 answer text <p>The UK military team providing capacity building for the Battalion d'Intervention Rapide (BIR) regularly assess the effectiveness of the training provided. Their assessment is that the BIR is a credible and effective partner force, having a positive effect on containing the spread of violent extremism in the Lake Chad Basin. A Conflict, Stability and Security Fund team visited Cameroon in November 2021 to evaluate the effectiveness of the military assistance provided to the BIR and they concluded that the training provided is effective.
