In accordance with the Open Skies Treaty, Russian military personnel, accompanied throughout by RAF personnel, conducted observation flights over the UK during the weeks of 11 May and 1 June 2015. The aircraft involved was unarmed and pre-certified by all Open Skies states. It flew on a flight plan authorised by the Ministry of Defence, in this case including over Lancashire, and the UK received copies of all photographs taken. The UK conducts similar missions in Russia.
