In the same month, HMS PROTECTOR was purchased outright by the Royal Navy, having previously operated on a long lease.</p><p> </p><p>In November 2013, the Ministry of Defence announced its intention to purchase three new offshore patrol vessels.</p><p> </p><p>This demonstrates Her Majesty's Government's continuing commitment to investing in a strong and versatile Royal Navy capable of securing and protecting our national interests for the future.</p><p> </p> more like this

star this property answer text <p> </p><p>The Commonwealth War Graves Commission (CWGC) currently holds the remains of 43 British service personnel killed in the First World War. A further eight sets of remains which were recovered with those of British personnel, are now believed to be members of other Commonwealth forces.<br><br>The Ministry of Defence has an agreed target with the CWGC to complete investigations and reinter remains, with appropriate honours, within 18 months of discovery.</p><p> </p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>Claims for damages brought against the Ministry of Defence are not recorded in a manner that enables the specific regiment or unit of a claimant to be identified without incurring disproportionate cost. 10,148 such claims have been received in the last six years from current and former Service personnel serving in Northern Ireland. Around 7,500 such claims have been successful to date, and the total value of compensation paid as a result has been around £62.3 million.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p> </p><p>The Royal Fleet Auxiliary (RFA) continually monitors its manpower numbers and plans its recruitment and retention strategies accordingly. As part of that overall programme there are ongoing and specific RFA Recruitment Campaigns. The direct contribution from individual campaigns is not known, not least as interest may grow over time, but I understand that between January and June this year 18 joining offers have been made to individuals wishing to become engineering officers in the RFA.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>As of 3 April 2014 four Frigates are deployed in UK waters or overseas on operational tasks and six are engaged in training or work up periods. The remaining three Frigates are in refit. We do not release the details of the ammunitions carried by deployed ships as to do so would, or would be likely to prejudice the capability, effectiveness or security of the Armed Forces. I can however, confirm that all Royal Navy ships deploy with the ammunitions and personnel required to undertake their operational tasking.</p> more like this

FTRS(LC) and (HC) personnel have no entitlement to occupy mess accommodation; but have an eligibility to occupy surplus mess accommodation, and would be expected to pay non-entitled rates. The exception to this being when on compulsory detachment.</p><p> </p><p>In order to better support single Service requirements, application can now be made within their respective Business Areas for FTRS personnel to occupy surplus mess accommodation at entitled rates. To ensure that a benefit in kind tax implication does not arise, individuals are expected to meet their own food bills.</p><p> </p>

star this property answer text <p>The UK has put in place a significant and comprehensive package of measures to demonstrate our commitment to NATO and collective defence and to reassure our Eastern Allies.</p><p> </p><p>The UK has no planned exercises or deployments in Finland, however we have recently completed or are participating in the following exercises in the Baltic region;</p><p> </p><p>• Exercise STEADFAST JAVLIN in Estonia (17-23 May). The UK deployed 80 personnel from the 1st Battalion, the Duke of Lancaster's Regiment under NATO command for a field exercise.</p><p>• Exercise BALTOPS in the Baltic Sea (6-21 June). The UK deployed a warship (HMS Montrose) on this NATO maritime exercise in the Baltic Sea.</p><p>• Exercise SABRE Strike in Estonia and Latvia (9-20 June). The UK deployed 1 Company from the Princess of Wales's Royal Regiment (approximately 100 personnel), 12 Artillery and Engineer experts and two exercise controllers to participate in a U.S. Army Europe-led multi-national brigade exercise.</p><p>• Exercise RAMSTEIN GUARD in Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania and North Atlantic (21-25 July). The UK will send two observers from the Joint Ground Based Air Defence Command based at High Wycombe to assess the UK's ability to support this annual series of NATO Air defence exercises in the future.</p><p>• Exercise BALTIC HOST in Baltic States (6-12 Oct 14) The UK will provide staff officers to participate in a tri-national Command Post.</p><p> </p><p>There are also 4 RAF Typhoon aircraft deployed to Lithuania in support of NATO's peacetime Baltic Air Policing mission which will return at the end of August. There are at present no plans to extend these commitments further, as future mission rotations are filled by Allies for the foreseeable future. However, we keep the situation under constant review and any potential future UK participation would be dictated by the regional situation and NATO requirements.</p><p> </p><p> </p>
