star this property answer text <p>As part of the phased reduction of the RAF’s Tornado GR4 fleet, aircraft allocated to disbanded squadrons are assessed against a range of criteria including flying hour life consumed, embodied capabilities and future maintenance requirements. Depending on the result of this assessment, aircraft are reallocated to Front Line squadrons, returned to BAE Systems for maintenance or upgrade, placed in storage for future use or selected for spares recovery. Components and equipment for which no further beneficial use can be identified are disposed of through normal channels.</p><p> </p> more like this

On 2 June 2014, BAE Systems was awarded a contract to undertake a risk reduction study in support of a planned Main Gate business decision in early 2015. star this property answer text <p>The Hermes 450 Unmanned Air System was procured by the Ministry of Defence from Thales UK as a service provision in response to an Urgent Operational Requirement. The Department has therefore never owned the equipment and does not have access to the unit cost. <br><br>Watchkeeper is a system delivering an Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance capability and comprising a number of elements including air vehicles, ground control stations, data terminals, ground equipment and sensors, as well as infrastructure and training facilities. Delivery of the complete Watchkeeper system is enabled by the Demonstration, Manufacture and In-Service Support contract with the prime contractor, Thales UK. As a contract for delivering the entire system, it does not lend itself to the individual identification of the unit cost of a Watchkeeper aircraft.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>Safety-Critical posts are fielded across the Defence Equipment and Support (DE&amp;S) organisation in a number of areas. The role of these posts is defined in DE&amp;S policy as having specified safety-related, decision-making responsibilities and accountabilities, and must be filled by people competent to make such decisions. Should a post become vacant, priority is given to recruitment action. Until the vacancy is filled, the post responsibilities are either transferred to other competent people or, to ensure safety, related activities cease. <br><br>Safety-Critical post data is reviewed on a monthly basis and as at 1 April 2014 there were 97 vacant Safety-Critical posts in DE&amp;S out of a total of 1,321. The number of Safety-Critical posts and vacancies will change regularly to reflect project requirements and as the result of staff turnover.
