star this property answer text <p>The Ministry of Defence is obligated under the Government’s Security Policy Framework to ensure personnel with access to sensitive information are appropriately vetted. We pass on this obligation to our contractors through relevant contractual security conditions which restrict the transfer of SECRET and above SECRET information to employees who hold the right level of security clearance where this is required for the role.</p><p> </p><p>British citizens who hold dual nationality are in principle eligible for employment by the Ministry of Defence and its defence contractors subject to achieving the appropriate level of security clearance. Due to the sensitive nature of the work concerned or International Treaty obligations there are circumstances in which dual nationals cannot be employed. This is likely to include posts within BAE Systems and AWE.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>Between 1 January 2010 and 31 December 2020, 1,275 Armed Forces personnel had a read code in their electronic medical record for a termination of pregnancy. Like for like data prior to 1 January 2010 is not held, as this preceded the roll-out of the Defence Medical Information Capability Programme, the source of electronic, integrated healthcare records of Armed Forces personnel.</p><p>Of the 1,275 personnel, 486 are no longer serving as at 1 January 2021. It is not possible to determine an association between their termination of pregnancy and subsequent discharge from service. However, between 1 January 2000 and 31 December 2020 there were no medical discharges officially recorded with a principal or contributory cause of termination of pregnancy.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>Ministers and senior officials have frequent contact with their US counterparts on a range of issues. On 15 June 2021, the Defence Secretary met with his counterparts from the US, France and Germany. Leaders discussed a range of issues and agreed on the importance of an orderly withdrawal from Afghanistan. More recently, the Defence Secretary discussed Afghanistan with Secretary Austin on his visit to the US on 13 July 2021. We will continue engaging with our Allies and partners as Afghanistan transitions to a new phase, following the withdrawal of NATO troops.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>Safety-Critical posts are fielded across the Defence Equipment and Support (DE&amp;S) organisation in a number of areas. The role of these posts is defined in DE&amp;S policy as having specified safety-related, decision-making responsibilities and accountabilities, and must be filled by people competent to make such decisions. Should a post become vacant, priority is given to recruitment action. Until the vacancy is filled, the post responsibilities are either transferred to other competent people or, to ensure safety, related activities cease. <br><br>Safety-Critical post data is reviewed on a monthly basis and as at 1 April 2014 there were 97 vacant Safety-Critical posts in DE&amp;S out of a total of 1,321. The number of Safety-Critical posts and vacancies will change regularly to reflect project requirements and as the result of staff turnover.
