star this property answer text
The Secretary of State exchanges regularly with his Australian and US opposites on a wide range of defence issues, including AUKUS. Australia asked for our help in acquiring a nuclear-powered submarine. We are meeting the request of a close partner, with whom we have a long history of co-operation, including on submarines. We will use the 18-month scoping period to establish exactly what the best way is to meet Australia's capability requirement. We will not pre-judge the outcome of the scoping period. Throughout this process, strengthening the non-proliferation regime will be our highest priority. We are undertaking every step in this process in a way that reflects our longstanding leadership in global non-proliferation and steadfast support for the Non-proliferation Treaty (NPT). We are pursuing rigorous verification standards, in partnership and consultation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
more like this

Indeed, for 15 years it has funded a programme to improve the condition of Sites of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) across the Defence estate to support the Governments targets for protected sites.

The MOD is developing a Nature Recovery Plan as required by the Greening Government Commitments. This will include an assessment of the potential future contribution to protected sites and other nature recovery targets. This plan will take account of the Defence imperative, current and future military requirements and where other land use contribute to Defence outputs such as carbon sequestration, renewable energy schemes and tenant farming.

The MOD will continue to engage with Nature Conservation Bodies and Nature Recovery Networks to complement the Department's approach.
more like this

These include offences relating to fraud and corruption.

Since Financial Year 2015-16, the MOD has placed over 14,000 contracts, and decisions on exclusion are made case-by-case.
