That is why the Broadcasting Act 1996 ensures that events of special national significance such as the Olympics and Paralympics can be seen as widely as possible. While DCMS has not conducted a study into the impact of viewing the specific events listed in 'Group A' on children's activity levels, we know that they have the power to unite the nation, and to inspire us all to get active.</p><p><strong> </strong></p><p>The Active Lives Children and Young People Survey shows that 3.3m (46.8%) of children and young people (aged 5-16) in England met the Chief Medical Officers’ guidance on physical activity in 2018-19. This is an increase of 279,000 since the previous year. However this means that over half do not do enough exercise to benefit their health. Last year for example almost 29,000 young disabled people took part at Level 3 of the School Games (county festivals). Sport England also works closely with the Association of National Special Colleges (Natspec) to get more young disabled people playing sport. Learning from Sport England’s work with Natspec colleges is shared with colleges and sixth forms to support them. Further, Sport England is investing £401,153 in the English Learning Disability Sports Alliance, a partnership between Special Olympics GB and Mencap Sport. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 07/03/2016 answer text <p>There are a number of excellent initiatives to encourage teenage girls to get active such as Sport England's This Girl Can campaign, a nationwide campaign to get women and girls moving, regardless of shape, size and ability. It is already changing behaviours with 49% of women aged 14 to 40 who have seen the campaign reporting they had taken action as a result.</p><p>Sport England has also invested over £2million in Bury for a pilot called <em>‘I Will if You Will</em>’. The programme, on which they worked closely with the local council, combined marketing techniques with sports sessions and exercise classes designed to overcome the hurdles that stop women taking part. <em>Us Girls,</em> funded by Sport England, also exists to increase and sustain young women's participation in sport and physical activity in some of the nation’s most disadvantaged communities.</p><p><em>Girls Active,</em> funded by Sport England, in partnership with This Girl Can and Women in Sport is a scheme to encourage teenage girls to take part in PE and sport and the School Games offer children of all abilities the chance to take part in competitive sport. In 2014/15, 177,630 children took part at level 3 of the School Games (the county festivals) and 51% of these participants were girls.</p><p>In December, DCMS published '<em>Sporting Future: A New Strategy for an Active Nation</em>', a new cross-departmental strategy for sport and physical activity. Currently over half of all young people (54.5%) play sport once a week and almost a quarter of a million more young people are playing sport today than in 2005 when London won the bid to host the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. Specific targets for young people have been agreed with each national governing body of sport. Sport England is also running programmes specifically targeting young people including Sportivate which over the last two years has given almost 400,000 young people the opportunity to take up a new sport. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 27/11/2017 answer text <p>The cost of attending live sport for all ages is something that must be kept under constant review, and we support a fair deal for fans, but respect that ticket-pricing policies should remain a matter for event hosts.</p><p> </p><p>The Government's sport strategy, Sporting Future, recognises how attending live sporting events can benefit individuals, communities and the wider sporting economy. Ten major sporting events supported by UK Sport saw over 1.1 million people attend in 2017, including the IAAF World Championships in London, where over 100,000 children under 16 attended at a ticket price of £9.58, signifying Usain Bolt's 100m world record. The World Para Athletics Championships similarly saw over 100,000 schoolchildren attend, with 30,000 children being transported free of charge by Transport for London as part of a two session ring-fenced school project. The men's and women's World Series Triathlons held in Leeds in June also attracted over 50,000 spectators who were able to enjoy the events for free.</p><p> </p><p>Football clubs are also offering concessions on ticket prices and associated costs for all fans, including younger supporters, which the recent BBC Price of Football 2017 study highlighted. Overall, English Football League (EFL) figures show that junior season ticket sales have increased by 37% over the past 10 years with 20% of all EFL club match attendees now under 16 years old.
