This purpose would not be served by bringing into coverage the register activities carried on in places or at times not relevant to determining suitability, or by including places which are simply hosting educational visits rather than providing tuition and it is not our intention to do so.</p><p> </p><p>Issues such as the definition of usual school hours, and what is a relevant setting for the purposes of providing local authorities with information about children on the proposed register of children not in school, will be considered based on responses received to the consultation, which closes on 24 June. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 21/06/2019 answer text <p>Within the free school programme, if a freehold site is deemed surplus for educational use, the department commission LocatED, a government–owned property company, to market the asset, which includes posting on to the central database of Central Government Civil Estate properties and land. The department has a freehold of the Grade II listed Old Admiralty Building in London. This building is currently empty because the department is undertaking an extensive refurbishment of the building. In early 2020, the freehold will transfer to the Government Property Agency. Entries in science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) subjects for 2014/15, 2015/16 and 2016/17 in free schools are provided in the table (attached).</p><p> </p><p>The number of students[4], who completed their 16-18 study in either a mainstream free school, or 16 to 19 free school, in 2014/15, 2015/16 and 2016/17 and entered[5] a STEM subject[6] during their 16-18 study are provided in the table[7] (attached):</p><p> </p><p>We do not hold data broken down as vocational STEM qualifications. We publish exam entries by Ofqual sector subject area at: <a href="https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/types-of-regulated-qualifications/qualification-descriptions" target="_blank">https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/types-of-regulated-qualifications/qualification-descriptions</a>, and in the Statistical Release “ Revised A level and other 16-18 results” at: <a href="https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/types-of-regulated-qualifications/qualification-descriptions" target="_blank">https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/types-of-regulated-qualifications/qualification-descriptions</a>.</p><p> </p><p>Free schools, as academies, have the freedom to choose their own curriculum, providing that it meets the requirements of its funding agreement – for example that it is broad and balanced and includes English, maths and science. It is ultimately for schools to decide whether to offer particular qualifications.</p><p> </p><p>We are working to further increase the take-up of STEM subjects which are vital to the future economic health of the UK and can help boost earnings. This is why at Budget 2017 we announced an additional £406 million in education and skills, including maths, digital and technical education.</p><p>We have a number of programmes to improve the quality of STEM teaching in schools and to encourage increased engagement in STEM subjects at GCSE and A level. This includes a new £84 million programme to improve computing teaching, the national network of Science Learning Partnerships which provide training for science teachers, the Teaching for Mastery programme to improve the teaching of mathematics, and a new advanced maths premium to encourage more schools and colleges to teach pupils maths post-16. We are also investing in initiatives to recruit more high quality maths and physics teachers, including bursaries of up to £26,000 and scholarships of up to £28,000 to attract top graduates into teaching.</p><p>We are inviting our most selective maths universities to apply to open new specialist maths schools, to help more of our most mathematically able students to succeed in maths at top universities and pursue mathematically intensive careers. We are also encouraging the take up of STEM subjects through the University Technical College programme, which has an important role to play in our reforms to technical education.</p><p> </p><p>[1] Only a pupil’s first attempt at a qualification is counted in performance measures in line with early entry policy (<a href="https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/676213/SFR01_2018_QualityandMethodology.pdf" target="_blank">https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/676213/SFR01_2018_QualityandMethodology.pdf</a>).</p><p>[2] Pupils are identified as being at the end of key stage 4 if they were on roll at the school and in year 11 at the time of the January school census for that year. Age is calculated as at 31 August for that year, and the majority of pupils at the end of key stage 4 were age 15 at the start of the academic year. Some pupils may complete this key stage in an earlier or later year group.</p><p>[3] Tables available at <a href="https://www.gov.uk/government/collections/statistics-gcses-key-stage-4" target="_blank">https://www.gov.uk/government/collections/statistics-gcses-key-stage-4</a> in the subject tables for the revised publication in each year (‘S7a’ for 2015/16 and 2016/17 and ‘S4a’ for 2014/15).</p><p>[4] Covers students at the end of advanced level study who were aged 16, 17 or 18 at the start of the academic year, i.e. 31 August.</p><p>[5] Where a student has made more than one entry in the same subject only one entry is counted: for example, if a student entered for two physics A levels in a reporting period only one of these entries is counted in the figures shown in this table.</p><p>[6] Figures for 2015/16 and 2016/17 cover maths, further maths, biological sciences, chemistry, physics and computer science A level entries during all years of 16-18 study (up to three years). During the implementation period, EU citizens coming to the UK and UK nationals going to the EU will be able to live, work and study broadly as they do now. Therefore, employers taking on apprentices who are covered by the Withdrawal Agreement, will continue to be able to access funding beyond March 2019. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 15/03/2019 answer text <p>We continue to keep the apprenticeship programme under review.</p><p>Level 6+ apprenticeships and degree apprenticeships were introduced in 2015 to bring the benefits of employer-led jobs with training to all levels of apprenticeship employment. We are working to move non-levy paying employers away from the current funding system to give them access to the same award-winning digital service as levy payers. We will provide more information on the transition by July.</p><p>We recognise that small and medium-sized enterprises, most of whom do not pay the apprenticeship levy, are the lifeblood of our economy and it is essential that our reforms work for these employers. Smaller employers that do not pay the levy already benefit from generous co-investment with 90% of training and assessment costs for apprenticeships provided by government. Government co-investment will increase to 95% in 2019.</p><p>The National Apprenticeship Service works through intermediary organisations (trade associations, business representative bodies and local partnerships) to reach smaller employers and increase engagement in apprenticeships. Employers are designing higher level apprenticeships that take longer and require more off-the-job training and, while this is something to be welcomed, we are conscious of the challenges it presents.</p><p> </p><p>In 2019-20, funding available for investment in apprenticeships in England will be over £2.5 billion, this is double what was spent in 2010-11. The apprenticeship budget is set in advance by Her Majesty’s Treasury for the current spending review period. Currently, we expect to be within budget in the 2018-19 and 2019-20 financial years. We continue to monitor the trend of increasing spending on apprenticeships and to make use of our engagement with employers in addition to all available data from the programme to inform forecasts of demand and future costs.</p><p> </p><p>The level of funding for the programme beyond 2020 will be determined by the forthcoming Spending Review announced by my right hon.
