<p>The Department for Transport is currently in the process of building the Bus Open
Data Digital Service. The Digital Service will enable bus operators to publish their
data so that it can subsequently be used by application developers to create products
to improve journey planning for bus passengers across England.</p><p>Live information
is in scope to be included in the digital service. Alongside routes, timetable, and
fares data, bus operators will be legally required to provide Automatic Vehicle Location
(AVL) data to the Bus Open Data Digital Service. Application Developers will be able
to access this data to build applications, products and services for end users or
passengers.</p><p>The provision of AVL data, which will be a legal requirement for
operators by January 2021, will be an important step towards transforming journey
planning for bus users through the use of live information.</p><p><strong> </strong></p><p><strong>
