The K marking denotes an EU citizen who has confirmed that they intend to vote in Northern Ireland, rather than their home state, at a specific European Parliamentary election. The K designation only lasts for one year and consequently there are currently no individuals with a K marking on the Northern Ireland register.</p><p> </p><p>UK, Irish and Commonwealth citizens are eligible to register to vote in UK General Parliamentary Elections. Other action which has been taken since 2013 to improve fire safety has included: the introduction of new regulations on smoke and carbon monoxide alarms in 2015; the continuing Fire Kills communications campaign; and research which was commissioned into fire safety issues.</p><p>An independent expert panel has been set up to provide advice to the Government on any immediate measures needed to make buildings safe following the Grenfell Tower fire. The panel will be led by Sir Ken Knight, former London Fire Commissioner and former Government Chief Fire and Rescue Adviser. It will consider safety measures, policies, inspection and regulation, taking account of both the Grenfell Tower fire and ongoing fire safety inspections. However, the Government is represented on EMSA’s Administration Board the EMSA management takes full account of better regulation and value for money principles in its ongoing delivery of its services.</p><p> </p><p>The Government is considering carefully all the potential implications arising from the UK’s exit from the EU, including the implications for the continued participation in the European Maritime Safety Agency (EMSA). The deficit has been cut by three quarters from its pre-crisis peak and the employment rate is the highest on record.</p><p> </p><p>The independent Office for Budget Responsibility provide the government with economic and fiscal forecasts for the UK economy twice a year. The Department is committed to reducing its pay gap and has introduced a range of initiatives to support women in the workplace. We’ve announced ambitious reforms to our technical education system that will invest over £500m per year, with an additional £170m to create Institutes of Technology in every region to deliver technical skills in STEM subjects. Energy suppliers are responsible for installing smart meters and are required to comply with a number of regulations and other requirements that relate to the safety of installations and appliances. These include the Gas Safety (Installations and Use) Regulations (1998), the Meter Asset Managers’ Code of Practice (MAMCoP) and the Meter Operators Code of Practice Agreement (MOCOPA) which set out the roles, responsibilities and expectations of meter installers when safety issues are identified during meter installation visits. The Government have also put in place additional requirements through the Smart Metering Installation Code of Practice (SMICoP) which require energy suppliers to ensure that installers are appropriately trained.</p><p>Smart metering is also providing an opportunity to detect pre-existing safety issues that would have otherwise taken longer to identify. Gas and Electricity Network Operators have an important role to play in resolving such issues.
