	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 28/01/2019 answer text <p>The Crime Survey for England and Wales shows crime has reduced by more than a third since 2010, and has remained broadly stable over recent months. However, we recognise the changing and increasing demand on the police, particularly in areas of low-volume high-harm crime like serious violence. We responded by increasing police funding by £460 million in 2018/19, including £280 million from council tax precept. The police workforce statistics released on 24 January show the first year on year increase in police officer numbers in a decade, indicating that Police and Crime Commissioners have been able to protect the front line.</p><p>For 2019/20, we have proposed a settlement that will see overall funding for the policing system increase by up to £970 million, including council tax precept. In 2017, I spoke to every police force in England &amp; Wales about the changing demands on them. The Government responded with a funding settlement that is increasing total investment in the police system by over £460m in 2018/19, including increases in Council Tax precept income.</p><p>We are doing substantial work with the police to better understand future police demand, what capabilities the police need to respond, and how efficiency and productivity can help improve services to the public. This programme of work includes analysis by policing of the first round of force management statements. This takes place through a wide range of fora and engagements including the Police Reform and Transformation Board and the digital roundtables convened by the Minister of Policing and Fire in January and June 2018 to support transformation in the digital space.</p><p>In May, The Minister for Policing &amp; the Fire Service wrote to police leaders setting out our commitment to work with the police ahead of the Spending Review. We are proposing a funding settlement that will provide total funding of up to £14 billion for 2019-20 in England and Wales, an increase of up to £970m compared to 2018/19, including precept, pensions funding and national investment. Funding for the police in Northern Ireland is a devolved matter.</p><p><br>It is for Chief Constables in conjunction with their Police and Crime Commis-sioners as part of their forward planning to determine the amount of police officers they will require to help them deal with any emerging pressures.</p><p><br>The Government is already supporting the police sector to respond to pres-sures arising from the United Kingdom leaving the European Union. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 07/01/2019 answer text <p>The Home Office is working closely with a range of operational partners, including the National Police Chiefs’ Council (NPCC), on policing and security cooperation between the UK and the EU in the context of EU Exit.</p><p>Our preferred scenario is a new legally binding agreement between the UK and the EU on internal security. However, as a responsible Government, we are preparing – on a contingent basis – for a no deal scenario in which we would move co-operation to alternative, non-EU mechanisms.</p><p>We are working closely with the NPCC on these joint preparations, and under ‘Operation Safety Net’, the NPCC is establishing a new national unit called the International Crime Co-ordination Centre.
